I'd rather take this woman's word over the opinions of that article's author. At least this woman's video is much more researched. This also comes from a feminist.

Now that is what I call a video, fantastic.

A well rounded and sensible video, I wish some of the gaming press would publicise this rather than the rubbish that makes male white gamers feel guilty about playing games.

“You often hear today that because smartphones exist, there’s no need for dedicated gaming machines. But, this 19- to 24-year-old female demographic, they’re the smartphone people, right? It’s often said that female casual gamers don’t need dedicated hardware, and yet here they are reaffirming the value of these machines.”

Not all adult women gamers are Candy Crush addicts, guys.

You have overkilled here... nice video from a feminist that seems to be more clear and torward the subject than the feminist that wish everything in the globe to be done on a female perspective...

and to OT

Why do man chars are the heros on action, adventure and policial games?? Just look at the statistics to see 90%+ of all violence is caused by men on men so who would find normal a psycopath to be a female or a die hard female hunter??? Those would be bullshit and irreal... There are enough strong women in games, like Ellie, Samus, Lara, etc...

Well so I think this community aint about videogame sales, but weapons... because we probably have like 0,1% of our fellow vgchartianz being female, so as we don't fit with the study we aren't gaming, just chatting =]

And in real life, almost all girls from 10-40 play some kind of game (candy crush, minecraft, solitaire, etc), but when talking about console and serious playing (more than 1h daily for complex and varied games) it is more like 1 girl play for every 10 or more guys.

Bullshit study used as source for bullshit clickgrabbing piece.

So we can say Animal Crossing isn't a serious game /jk.

But as said before, most games female play there isn't a real protagonist (male or female).

What are they playing? Candy Crush is my bet.

Dragon's Crown.  Atleast two of the people I regularly play Dragon's Crown with are female.

It's a niche game though.  I'd say you're probably right about Candy Crush.

Dragon's Crown.

Come one be honest, i know what're you thinking.

I play multiplayer with two females.  Not I play using two female characters.  Although I've gotten all six characters to ultimate, so I play with three female characters if that's what you meant.

I believe the Zelda series is actually very popular among women. Its fanbase is probably in the 40-50% female range if I had to guess.

Any statistic or just gut feeling??? At least in Brazil along my friends I just see men talking or playing Zelda.. but since it aint violent maybe there is a better female public than Uncharted or CoD.

Gut feeling. I'd love to see some stats though.

How is the Nintendo fanbase and Zelda fanbase in your country??? Here most of gaming is for males independent of console and genre (besides of course facebook and smartphone games).
