Forums - Sales - Media Create Week Ending 9-14-2014 - Destiny Boost and Huge Debut for SSB

Man, one week and the PS4 already wiped away the sales advantage the XBO had in its launch week. This also goes to show that once the PS4 gets more games that appeal to Japanese gamers it will be getting really nice bumps. Can't wait to see what FFXV week looks like.

Edit:  Also, I think the One is going to be lucky if it can even pull off 400K in Japan.

A lot of luck.

XBO did it's job well.

SSB for 3DS has a nice opening but low HW boost. That could be because the N3DS is releasing shortly or the fact that the SSB/3DS bundle is not yet out, to my understanding.

Guess it'll be fine to combine SSB sales for similar purposes.....

I can't imagine ever combining Smash sales except when comparing them to previous Smash games. Don't make such silly assumptions.

Did you read why i said this? Of course I dont think we need to combine SSB 3DS and Wii U sales.....

But you are assuming Nintendo fans will combine sales of the two when it suits their agenda. I'm trying to reach a middle ground here. A certain user was comparing sales of Hyrule Warriors to sales of a game that launched on two consoles, one of which is 8 years old and has an install base over 10 million in Japan. It makes no more sense to combine Destiny sales on those two platforms than it makes to combine Smash sales on its two platforms, which is to say it makes no sense at all except in specific situations. This is not one of those situations.

Doesn't make much sense (altough both released together and are the same game... is SSB the same on both plats??? NPD lump all together), anyway we know Destiny can end up outselling HW even in just PS4...

HW 100k LTD... Destiny 91k FW....

That is at least a real comparison. Destiny as a multiplatform game and Hyrule Warriors have nothing to do with one another, it is a nonsensical (and downright inflammatory) comparison. At least Hyrule Warriors vs Destiny PS4 is interesting -- a Japanese exclusive being outsold by the SKU of a Western multiplatform title on a lower install base.

Be that as it may, Destiny will have to show stronger legs than Hyrule Warriors if it wants to win that fight, and while neither Warriors nor Zelda games are known for their legs, Western games are not known for their legs in Japan either.

Well NPD does that because they compare everything on all the SKUs... but us gamers can have a little leaway and compare SKU to SKU. Unfortunately it will be an ant fight for maybe who gets to 200k LT? Probably will be decided next week, if Destiny can't pass HW by next week (9k difference is too small) then it never will, if it pass with less than let's say 40k to spare it will be a timedraining fight, if it sell more than that (quite unlikely) then I think Destiny would have certainty on the win... probably before christmas we will have a definitive answer (not that it would matter much anyway). But yes comparing Destiny PS4+PS3 to HW don't make a point since HW is also a small and new IP in Japan even using Musou+Zelda, but certainly with more legs...

Obviously it will outsell HyWa. You're surprised that a 500$ million dollar budget+marketting game with a bundle, is outselling a game on a platform not known for serving the niche the game fills?

We are talking Japan here, which didn't had a 500M marketing and which have a bundle that isn't discounted (while selling 3-4x more outside the bundle anyway)... and shooters in Japan is more niche than Musou games... but yes take the point completely out of context and you may have a point.
