Forums - Nintendo - Live in Europe and Want to Play SSBB? Here you go!

Nintendo would still make money off of you buying the game, but you would be playing a game like brawl in a language you don't understand.

Playing the American version might be a bit hard, seeing how important words like colour and armour are spelled wrong on that side of the Atlantic, but I think we'd manage somehow.

Importing Japanese versions is one thing, although I'd have no problem with it, but even the US versions of most games tend to arrive months earlier than the European ones. I'd be happy with just importing US games for the most part.

Soriku: You realise that's the Gamecube Freeloader, right? It not working with newer versions of the Wii is troublesome, but still not quite conclusive proof of Nintendo going after the Wii FL.

@sleepwalking

you are kidding yourself if you think Nintendo would have to replace your console if it bricked while running this program. Nintendo region locked thier games for a reason and I dont think the reason was that peeps could make money selling a program that provides a way around it. You run unlicensed software on your Wii that exploits code to play a game you arent supposed to be able to play in the first place - they can brick your Wii. And I hope they would. Would it also allow you to run unlicensed software? Say homebrew games?

 no it wouldn't be possible to run homebrew, this just changes your region code just as the gamecubes version, BTW I'm not kidding myself, they might be able to stop it through a firmware upgrade but never will using this disc causing you a bricked wii, like I said they can't prove you used this so if they would brick Wii's they would have to fix them. It would even be possible to run updates for the freeloader if the wii sees it as an actual game, could be very intresting. Too bad al already got a japanese and american wii, damn if I would have known this.

 Soriku that's an other version.

it's very tempting to purchase something like this especially to get the awesome that brawl will be early but i tend to err on the side of caution with this kind of software, ashame really, lol.

nintendo and sega fan since i was old enough to hold a game controller.

note: my games collection on my profile is only 20ish% complete, i've got a boatload of 360,saturn and dreamcast games to add and a few ps3 games, thanks :)

No Soriku that one is for the GC.

Why does it say Wii on the cover, though? Unless that's just photoshopped on or is a very recent freeloader.

"Works on the Wii" as in you can play your imported Gamecube games also on your Wii with it. The description and the date make it pretty clear it doesn't do a thing with Wii games.

Not that one needs anything more than fast fingers to play other region GC games on the Wii.

 Your post refers to a different product by the same people. Notice how your link mentions the freeloader working on Gamecubes and the Wii freeloader specifically mentions it does not work on it. People have read your post and realized it is not the same product being offered.

i typed out a big long reply but then it sounded corny. but dont think they couldnt PROVE that you used the CD. If they were to go for a full on assault against this program and its users they could build a SPECIFIC check into the firmware update. Nintendo wouldnt brick someone's wii though, I dont think company would have the cajones to try that. But there could be other, real reprocussions

@dgm6780

There's no way Nintendo can brick your console with that. They know pretty well that they'd better not do that on purpose, as it's a mindfield for lawsuits. They have no right to brick your console, that's considered like a faulty product. Unless you modified your console, because then they can say YOU are the cause of the console failure. But putting any CDROM or DVDROM in the console shouldn't brick it.
That's precisely why they included a notice before update, warning people who modified their console, that they can brick their console with an update. Thus, they prevent any lawsuits from smart modders.

The only thing they can do, is prevent the freeloader from running by detecting it. Which I doubt they can do, but who knows. IMHO, the only way for them to do that, is through new hardware revisions. Of course, that actually depends on how Datel implemented this.

This thing is not at all illegal, and that's actually region coding which is illegal. For now, console makers get away with it in Europe, but for example, DVD players must have a way to remove region coding in Europe, that's why you can remove region coding from any DVD player in Europe. I hope a lawsuit is launched for Blu-Ray too.

Anyway, I'm eager for this to come, as I'll surely buy it, to then enjoy all these japanese games that will never be out in Europe, and some american versions, like No More Heroes, which I won't buy in Europe.

Nintendo of Europe is full of fail anyway, and I never wanted to support them, but had to because the Wii is for all the family.
