Forums - Gaming - Mojang: Yes, we’re being bought by Microsoft (confirmed for $2,5 Billion)

Just remember people. That's 2.5B and it costs $600k to start and maintain a decent sized game studio. By doing the math they could open thousands of studios with that Minecraft money. Stupid decision, MS.

And it's for... 1 game which is already on the system, so a total increase in games on the system of 0 for 2.5billion.

I'm not even mad about this anymore, just want to see what they do with this acquisition now.

Congratulation to the Minecraft founders they really came out of this ON TOP, literally!

Not even sure what to make of it. Depends on if Microsoft try to monetize the game far more than it already is but i hope not. I do wonder how this affects 4J studios who make the console versions of Minecraft and also how this affects the future development of Pocket Edition and PC Minecraft?

I respect Notch's reasons for leaving though. The more popular something gets, the more hate it gets. Most people can't deal with that.

Also, $2.5 billion is too much for just one game

Prediction: Switch 2 will outsell the PS5 by 2030

Well I guess now they are #1 in something: "Funniest acquisitions of 2014"

Man, Oculus and Twitch were bargains.

I guess now we're going to see Minecraft bundled with every Xbox One.

At least it's a better deal than Oculus for 2 billion.

Why is Oculus a bad deal?

Oculus itself isn't a bad deal, but it's not worth 2 billion. Mojang at least has a good revenue and profit stream, while we have no idea if/how much money Oculus will make.

Not a bad deal.
if they sell 10m copies at thirty bucks a hit they'd easily make the money back.

No they need to sell 80 million copies and that's assuming they gain all profit from the sale.

I doubt anybody would refuse a 2.5$ buyout for a single game.
Though the so-called "reasoning" behind Notch selling the company doesn't seem all that smart to me. Why would anyone feel pressure for owning one of the most famous games of the decade? Doesn't make sense IMO.

If I owned the GTA IP I wouldn't sell it for $2.5billion :p

You know what I mean :P

How is mojang worth 2.5 billion dollars ? Minecraft won't sell that much anymore, and mojang has zero chance of releasing another that successful game.

Also 2.5 billions is worth ~150 million sales for the publisher. No way this will happen in less than 150 years.

I'll go with the rumor saying this is to give value to the xbox division spinoff.

Wow. Microsoft supports the Vita more than Sony does.

Haha ... best comment so far this week :)
