OT: this is a very stupid article. It keeps baffling me how so many people that work at sites like these and go as far as write articles about gaming seem to know so little about the industry.
Like does he realize that right now a 4k gaming rig will cost at least $2000? and thats maybe even lowballing it.
And still I know no one who is genuinely looking at a 4K TV.
Most importantly though, HD games on a 480p LCD TV looked like crap!
However 1080p content on TVs under 60 inches still looks stellar!

Is 2.5T enouth for 4K??
PS4 with 1.8T does 1080p and XOne with 1.2T does 900p easely.
4K is 4x 1080p

Sorry for being lazy (not finding figures) but If I remember correctly the PS3 was never selling badly. Once it was released worldwide it consistently outsold the 360, just not in North america.
Equally the Xbox One was doing better at 500 dollars then it is at 400.
I think a 600 dollar system could do well if it has the software and tech to justify its price. Price is just the first thing that people blame and try to ammend because games can't be made over night. In my opinion its better off to differentiate your hardware and actually secure a market then just try to go toe to toe with your competitor, Xbox would be doing better at the moment if it just stuck with the original plan IMO.

Very lowballing.
When these consoles were being developed 4k was not even on the radar, you can't just add something in that big so near the release dates.
Besides it will take 2-3 years yet for there to be enough 4k content to actually warrant mass adoption (for these things to go mainstream) It could very well take a little longer then that for games to adopt 4k also (mass market that is). We will see this in the next generation of consoles.
Besides have you seen what it takes for a PC to run games at 4k? to do it correctly you need 2 pretty beefy video cards.

Whats funny about that is that the very same forbes website put up that article analysing the current cost of a 4k gaming set up. And from al indications it was gonna cost well over $5000. So he basically is saying that sony/ms/nintendo to make and subsidize a $5000 console and sell it for $400? Whats even more funny, is that in that analysis article they kept on using the word "configure" meaning even they couldn't afford to buy it yet this new article somehow suggests that in two years everyone will have a 4k tv?
