My answer is....

Xenogears 61 27.35%

Xenosaga 26 11.66%

Xenoblade Cheonicles 136 60.99%

Total:223

Are the related? I only had Xenosaga 2, which was great.

My grammar errors are justified by the fact that I am a brazilian living in Brazil. I am also very stupid.

I feel like the only category Xenoblade can reasonably win in is Battle System.

Xenogears hands down for setting, it might have the best setting of any RPG in history. A 10,000 year history which is a reflection of a literal biblical account of earth retold in science fiction terms, and then an additional 4,000 years on the end. It spans back before that too, a creation of Deus/God. Xenosaga a close second given the extraordinary detail they put into the history of technology and the scientists involved.

Characters, it depends, I am going to say not Xenoblade for certain. Xenosaga and Xenogears both have excellent casts and some of the greatest RPG characters ever. Fei tops every RPG main character ever, and KOSMOS is certainly up there. Jin is like a much more interesting version of FFX's Auron. Xenogears has Elly, Miang, Krelian, Citan, and other really strong additional characters. Hard choice.

Environments? I have to admit, Xenoblade probably has this one. Some of the locations like Alcamoth and Frontier Village are breathtaking.

It's his opinion, how can he be wrong?

It's highlighted. It can not only win in battle system according to you, but environments as well. Therefore it can reasonably win more than just the battle system catagory.

Again, he feels that it can only win in battle system. If that's how he feels, you can't change it.

Only played xenogears, loooooooong time ago in my PS1. I remember it was sooo amazing and went straight down to my top 3 list of JRPG. I just wish disc 2 wasnt rushed and it had more anme sequences. That game deservers a remastering. DOn't know why it never happened, so many games got re-releases after some time, including more dungeons, cinematics, etc... maybe it didnt sell well enought in the ps1.

I need to play it agin, the story was the most complex Ive seen in an RPG ever. Maybe it also needed a better translation.

Playing Xenogears again will probably ruin your good memories about it, I believe so.

Nah.  I only played it recently for the first time, as an adult in my 30s mid PS3/360 era, having experienced the SNES/PS1 era first hand and still yearning for the JRPG golden era. I don't know how or why I missed Xenogears when it came out.

Yes it was clunky and ugly PS1 era but I was absolutely stunned. It dethroned FFII (4) as my fav game of all time for nearly two decades, no easy task.

I'll never forget how numb and stunned I physically felt when it all came together for me and I realized what was going on.

I think I saved and watched the intro video like a dozen times in a state of complete shock. It made zero sense and had nothing to do with anything in the game up to that point where I put 2+2 together, then suddenly everything happened, I remember the skulls etc and the feeling of awe and reverence when that hull came out of the water. It was damn near life changing and made me feel so tiny.

And when the credits rolled and the ending lyrics started...I cried like a baby.  The game backstory haunted me for months after,as I soaked up Perfect Works, etc. trying to make sense of the timeline, the Deus system design, etc. the relationships between all the characters and entities pulling the strings, the genetic history, etc. the emotional toll on the characters who broke free of the system discovering the truth and having the world they thought they knew completely shatter.

One of the greatest media transcending literary works of all time IMO.

Lol, misunderstanding here.

Bigtakilla is just pointing out that Jumpin was contradicting himself, saying there is only one point Xenoblade can resonably win, and then saying Xenoblade also win in another one.

I didn't, he did. Lol.

Xenogears is one of my favorite games of all time, so I definitely will have to lean towards it during this conversation. Memorable story, Insanely good soundtrack, interesting characters, and a fun battle system (that on the surface looks deeper then it really is granted, but every game has its weakness). As others have mentioned, the first disc is one of the best overall of the RPG genre, while the second disc definitely feels like they were rushed to meet a deadline and had to hurry through some important plot points.

On the flipside, I hated the Xenosaga games. Xenogears still was 90% GAMEPLAY, while Xenosaga felt like a movie.

Xenoblade in the middle.

Thats great man. THat's almos my opinion also. As I played it, maybe 15 years ago, my english wasnt as good as it is today. I understood that plot but probably didnt get a lot of subtle things. Also, as with most of the JRPG of that time, the translation wasnt that great also.

3 years ago I played FF tactic in the psp version, with a new translation and wow, what a difference.

I really don't understand how xenogears never received a DS, PSP or Android version. Look at Lunar, there are version everywhere. Why not Xenogears?

The best answer I could give is no one knows who owns the thing!

I wouldn't go that far personally. While I very much enjoyed xenogears story, and I believe it would be an above-average novel if written in that format, it certainly has many faults which would prevent it from being one of the "greatest literary works of all time." For a video game story it is excellent, and even if we are going to compare it to much of the fiction found in the novel format it is good/above-average, but certainly it wouldn't be anything spectactular as far as literatue goes. And that is fine, because it fits the role of a video game, and has a unique layer of complexity.

This seems to have stagnated, the final results showing:

Best Xeno game according to VGC Members goes to! (With a whopping 74 vote lead.)

XENOBLADE CHRONICLES!!!

It's well deserved.
