Forums - Nintendo - Xenoblade Chronicles X helped Monolith Soft to lay HD development groundwork

At their development speed they'll have to release their next game on the Wii Us successor (if there is one) anyway, so that means building up a new set of key skills and groundwork to build up.

If that studio didn't help with other Nintendo titles it would probably not be able to finance itself, at all.

They are a first party studio, I'm pretty sure Nintendo is the one financing them

Right, what I meant is if they didn't help with those other games then Nintendo would have no reason to keep them as a first party studio. 120 people whose best selling game didn't even break a million and who take forever to get their own games out, what's the point of keeping a studio like that? That's like Sony keeping Team ICO.

Xenoblade not breaking a million wasn't Monlith's fault.

It wasn't, but that still doesn't make it better. The point I'm trying to make is just that Monolith Soft is not a studio that could afford its own dev cycles (or justify its position among Nintendos first party financially) if they didn't help out with other games aside from their own.

Dolls, which are what we call these vehicles, are roughly five times the size of a person, so to get the same feel as Xenoblade Chronicles while using a Doll, the map would probably need to be five times as large. It’s actually even bigger than that, but we’ve made sure to design Xenoblade Chronicles X so that players can still feel comfortable navigating the world, despite its vast size.”

Dolls is what I call these characters:

The more I hear of the game, the better.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

I like the idea of some clues to quest locations. Xenoblade is one of the only games where I had to use a guide for many of the side quests just to know where to find the characters or enemies. So many were obscure, only around at a certain time, etc, and the world is so huge. As long as they don't dumb it down too much, some better guidance would be great.

One thing to consider is what Iwata said earlier this year when discussing the next-gen console. He said the transition from Gamecube to Wii was the easiest Nintendo has ever had due to the similarities in hardware and that they plan to mimic that approach by having the next console "absorb" the Wii U architecture.

If thats the case then we should see a better software next-gen.

All of their resources go into other places. Those who can put two and two together know what I mean.
