Did you read the thread? The Wii has a 2MB frame buffer. The other 1.1MB is used for texture caching and vertex caching. A 1280x720 image is 921,600 pixels. Assuming a 24-bit image, that means the frame buffer would need to be at least 2,764,800 bytes, more than what the Wii has. I guess it could render a lower resolution image, and upscale it to 720p, like many XBox360/PS3 games, but I doubt it has the hardware to do so or capactiy to do so.
Don't get me wrong guys. I don't think Super Mario Galaxy has hit the peak power of the Wii (and I personally think Super Mario Galaxy looks great, even on my 1080p LCD TV). But let's not get too far fetched with our ideas on how powerful the Wii is. I'm just trying to keep things realistic.
