Forums - Gaming - Xbox One Parity Clause Is ‘Brutal’, Dev Explains Why Their Game Is Not Coming On Xbox One

Well thanks to the crazy sales of the PS4 there isn't really any need for an indie developer to release on X1 at all.

That's why domination can be good, when the good one dominates.

Predictions for end of 2014 HW sales:

 PS4: 17m   XB1: 10m    WiiU: 10m   Vita: 10m

I have yet to see a single good reason to keep the parity clause. No idea why Microsoft doesn't remove it.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

It helps Sony, so I'm okay with it.

Come to think of it, I would have been even happier had Microsoft kept all the draconian plan from the original reveal. Now THAT would be comedy gold, and a quick permanent exit from the industry, instead of a slow and painful one.

The parity clause has never made sense. "It's on someone else's system? WELL IT CAN'T BE HERE! NYUK NYUK NYUK.

It just feels like infantile bullying. Microsoft knows this content won't make them money,. So rather than try to foster a solid marketplace MS holds their breath and turn blue. You have *not* put a ring on it; business partners are not romantic partners and have no reason to be faithful to you. And with the PS4 selling like it is, indy devs will just say "you know what? I don't have to mess with your bullshit."

True, it's great for the market at large that they are losing so badly. Considering the global sales rates (more than 3:1 in favor of PS4 in 2014), there is less and less reason to even bother releasing XB1 software. Sales in Europe are so bad (and Japan joining in the fun now) that stores have already cut shelf space for XB1, and completely dropping it wouldn't make much of an impact at all.

If at first you don't succeed...try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try again!

Although I anger some by saying things like this, I honestly believe that if MS doesn't improve their sales SIGNIFICANTLY by the end of the year, they will probably kill it off.  They are losing money on it, and Nadella has already said that it's not part of Microsoft's "Core", so how long do you think the board and shareholders will tolerate it in third place?  How long will they tolerate the negative PR that the Xbox generates?

MS is no longer in a position of power to dictate terms to indie developers, so the parity clause will disappear very soon...

They have to power to do whatever they want.. Sorry.. Indie games are NOT system sellers.  It is the benefit of the Indie developer to be on X1.. NOT Microsoft.. They are allowing indies to SELF publish and use all the resources a big developer can, and sending many developers FREE dev kits..  If you are sending FREE stuff to developers, might you NOT want something in return?  It sure wont be a huge cut of money.. as most indie games sell for $15 or less..  and don't sell in great numbers..

Would you rather have 15 million audience or 10 million? That is the choice of the developer.

What a load of BS. blocking a release if it isn't simultaneous with others is pathetic and won't ge MS anything.

Most won't take their time to include xone within their first release, they'll simply ignore the it.

wii u is another big indie seller. some wii u indie games even outsell their steam + ps4 counterparts. I guess the options for release are clear.

They might as well remove it, I don't see how being so damn picky about it is doing them a favor. The more games, even if they are not big sellers or sleeper hits, is always good (unless it's blatant shovelware)

MS surely isn't losing any sleep over it, but it just seems like a needless clause.
