Forums - Gaming Discussion - On MCC and remasters.

Whenever someone says how LBP3 , The Last of Us, etc, is nothing but a higher resolution port some Sony fan always brings up The Master Chief Collection.

Wth MCC, you can play Halo Anniversary 1, 3, and 4 in native HD and widescreen, just like you can with LBP3, The Last of Us, Tomb Raider, etc.  With Halo 2, you can only play it 4:3 upscaled with textures from two generations ago and can no longer play it online.  Halo 2 is being brought back online, updated to 16:9 widescreen, and native 1080p, with a complete graphics overhaul exclusive to the Xbox One.  This is in the same vein as Final Fantasy 4 Complete Collection, Super Mario All Stars, Dragon Quest 3 on the Super Famicom or Gameboy Color, SMT Persona, Ocarina of Time 3D, etc.  It's not a full remake similar to games like Wild ARMs Alter Code F, Lunar The Silver Star Story Complete, Tales of Destiny 2, Brigandine Grand Edition, Mega Man Powered Up, Mega Man Maverick Hunter X, Ys Oath in Felghana, etc, where the games follow the same structure as the original but have not only a major overhaul to their graphics, but also major changes on how the game plays.

I'd hope people would realize how stupid they look saying "but MCC on the Xbox One" and quit saying it.  It's not in the same as an upscaled port.

It is also ridiculous how much content they put into one game. Then some companies sell you single only or multiplayer only games at the same price.

Indeed, though, it's still stupid to consider more MCC as an exclusive like a lot here do. ( and by the way, TLOU : R is not just an " higher resolution port" )

Predictions for end of 2014 HW sales:

 PS4: 17m   XB1: 10m    WiiU: 10m   Vita: 10m

So... If Microsoft makes a remaster (not remake or reboot since it's THE SAME GAME, please don't compare with OoT 3D on 3DS) it is understandable, but if Sony does then it's not good and there's no comparison, since... you know, both are remasters... Ok. Live happily with this logic of yours.

3DS, Wii, PSP, Vita, PS2, PS3, PS4 & Steam.

LBP3...isn't a port? It's cross gen.

Sometimes the amount of work done in a remaster justifies the price. I think a lot of the comparisons come from that. Sometimes these remaster look more than a quick cash in than anything compelling while other time they do a complete overhault and add content. If you are pleased with the remaster of your choice then I see no problems with it.

The big difference is that Halo MCC is not a remaster.  It's not just the original game upscaled to 1080p format, or actually, it does include the original graphics template so it does have the original game scaled to 1080p, but it also includes brand new graphics.  The Last of Us is just like the PS2 remasters, Ico, SotC, etc.  Same textures at a higher resolution.  The difference in The Last of Us picture below is hardly noticeable, while the Halo 2 comparison, being a full blown graphics enhancement, is like night and day.  The Halo 2 comparison is also comparing the MCC 1080p version of Halo 2, so the classic version is even 1080p instead of the 480p source material and it's still far and away better looking.

I gotta say... MCC puts all "remasters" in this gen to shame

Hmmm yup I agree.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

They even redid the cut scenes. While they were ingame on Xbox they are now full cgi made by Blur Studios.
