Forums - Nintendo - Why so much hate for the "New" Nintendo 3ds???

People only dislike it (at least from what I can tell) because it has its own exclusives without being a new generation of hardware, meaning that early adopters of the 3DS are punished severely.

Really? I think that early adopters are actually the ones who are the least upset over this news. From what I've seen, people who recently bought a 3DS are angry because they just purchased hardware that's about to be out-of-date in a year or less, but people who bought a 3DS near launch don't mind and are more likely to want an upgrade.

I got my original 3DS back in 2011, and I'm definitely going to get the N3DS when it releases in NA. By the time it comes out here, the 3DS will have been out for at least 3 years and 9 months. That's already longer than the time between the Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance in NA, which was 2 years and 7 months, and it's also longer than between the GBA and DS in NA, which was 3 years and 5 months. This is hardly Nintendo's worst offense when it comes to new versions of handhelds.

Well, by "early adopters" I meant anyone who bought a 3DS before this.

I realize this is by no means Nintendo's "worse offense," but simply because things have been worse in the past doesn't mean that people are justified in being upset now.

I just dislike that I will probably not have one, or if I do then I will have to say goodbye to my Zelda beauty from just Nov 2013....

But everything else is good. (Though personally I don't like what they have done with the Home,Select and Start Buttons.)

I think because it's more of a gimmicky version of the "old" 3DS and looks like a cash-grabbing move to make ppl who are already happy with their 3ds, to make a forced jump if they want to play exclusive locked content on this redesigned version.

If it was a new model, sure would make sense. But no, it's just an obvious cash-grab move from Nintendo this time. Sure people wouldn't be happy if they got a PS4 at launch and 3 years later Sony would release a new shiny Slim PS4 but with the clause that it would have exclusive games for the slim version.

...Let the Sony Domination continue with the PS4...

I don't think people really care about Xenoblade, it's more about the knowledge that future games will be coming which are exclusive to the new 3DS as well.

I think at this point calling them "early adopters" doesn't really apply here.

OT: This is part of the reason I don't buy handhelds anymore. The last handheld I bought was the GBA SP.

Well, call them previous buyers then. Whatever teminology should be used here.

Oh god, I hated the select and start buttons on the xl. They always felt like they were stuck and I would always press really hard to make sure I was pressing them. They didn't feel like buttons at all. Maybe mine were defective, but this is a welcome change.

I quite like those buttons lol. I hate how select and start changed location............

now if someone got a 3DS within the past year i can see why they are pissed but if you got a 3DS when it released i honestly don't understand why your so angry you've had the system for 3 and a half years and by the time this hits the west and europe it will be 4 years and it comes to exclusives i can understand why this was need for example Xenoblade pushed the Wii basically to its limits it felt like and since the 3DS spec wise is basically in between the N64 and Gamecube i imagine they did have running on the original 3DS but in a very unplayable state that would be impossible to fix if it weren't for the N3DS.

The hate is coming from non-Nintendo fans primarily.
