Doubling the RAM and having a higher clocked CPU makes the hardware like 50% more powerful. An actual "new" handheld will have at least 10x the power of the previous console. This is just a 3DS with a slightly newer version of its ARM CPU and more RAM for faster downloads.

If it is the same CPU and GPU but twiked to be faster only.. then is a redesign, it adds a lot of new functions so probably that's why it adds more RAM... NFC, n-Type WiFi, the bigger screen, plus others would have taxed too much the old system...

Compared with Vita is still a lot behind in terms of hardware (that's if is the old CPU and GPU just Overclocked with more Ram and vRAM), even with the additions Vita is a newer hardware and more powerful than the N3DS.

I wouldn't call it a new handheld, sure they upgraded the specs and all, but you can be damn sure most of the stuff is still going to come to the original 3DS, maybe the new 3DS will get "3DS Enchanced" titles like the DSi got, that would be cool.

anyway the name ''new 3DS'' tells that it is still a 3DS, but a ''new'' one :P

Nintendo is about to go Wii---->New3ds port crazy while they use most of their teams to develop new content for the Wii U. They may as well call the "New 3ds" the "3dWii."
