Do these idiot hackers realize they're not hurting the corporations at all here? Sony and Microsoft don't give a shit if services go down for a day. The people this hurts are the gamers. Fuck hackers.

The business impact on a successful DDoS attack can be quite substantial. It can involve financial losses, reputation damage, customer agitation and (sometimes) legal repercussion. Honestly, the only difference between a DDoS attack and actual hacking is that on the latter your customer information is potentially at risk, the rest of the consequences are pretty much the same.

The above of course depends on the length of the attack, many companies disguise a minor DDoS attack as a service maintenance because it takes very little time to resolve the issue, but in some cases it can take a long time.

Your only difference is a pretty big difference and the consequences would be far greater if it was actual hacking, just like the first time. This is just more of an annoyance then anything.

Not really, it really depends on how long the service is down. Like I said, some companies disguise minor DDoS attacks as maintenance, but in some cases it can take a long time to resolve the issue, meaning the consequences can be almost the same as actual hacking.

I'd rather be annoyed a day are to,then have my personal information stolen. that's a huge difference in my mind. If the service is down for over a month, just like the first time, then yes you have a point.

Hmmm I don't see any service notice on Xbox.com, only something about joining other people's games in Diablo III. Must of not been much of an attack

They handled it quickly.

I am still batting 100 in situations where XBL is supposedly down. I guess the servers nearest me are impregnable.

I hope the PSN shit is fixed by tomorrow, seems to be affecting loads of people and it would suck for a big game like Madden to launch and be unplayable online. Hell I guess those who planned on buying online wouldn't get to play at all.

So it's not coming to Wii U?

Bet with Xander XT:

I can beat more games on his 3DS than he can on my PSVita in a month. Loser has to buy the winner a game on his/her handheld Guess who won? http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=193531
