The business impact on a successful DDoS attack can be quite substantial. It can involve financial losses, reputation damage, customer agitation and (sometimes) legal repercussion. Honestly, the only thing difference between a DDoS attack and actual hacking is that on the latter your customer information is potentially at risk, the rest of the consequences are pretty much the same.

Your only difference is a pretty big difference and the consequences would be far greater if it was actual hacking,just like the first time. This is just more of an annoyance then anything.
