Forums - Nintendo - Forbes: Nintendo Needs Exclusive First-Person Shooters Now That Call Of Duty Is Gone

Yea cause Call of Duty was moving Wii and Wii U units.

Good job whoever wrote this at Forbes, your a genius

I hate reading articles that bring up Goldeneye.  That and perfect dark are like the only FPS that Nintedo has really had that were system sellers.  And that was what near 20 years ago.  Seriously while many may want FPS on Nintendo, they have lived and strived to this day without them.

Good way to ruin a thread...

Turok time!!

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

Forbes Contributor. People need to start knowing what the difference is.

Splatoon seems to be Nintendos take on the shooter genre.

I'd say Nintendo will want a colorful take on the FPS genre.

Seriously, having color is one of the few ways you can easily distinguish yourself in the shooter arena.

I WON A BET AGAINST AZUREN! WOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

I am happy with Splatoon BUT I agree. Nintendo needs a shooter to appeal to the 'mature' audience. Something along the lines of;

1-Timesplitters (make it exclusive)
2-Conduit
3-New IP

(Although hopefully Devils Third does the trick)

Barely. Most those games got other systems. Why do you think last gen there wasn't a clear Winner between PS360? Nintendo fans split across both platforms and each purchased another console. In some cases all three.

There is nothing Nintendo can do to get the hardcore gamer back. Creating an exclusive FPS would be a waste. Nobody in their right mind is going to leave Xbox or Playstation to play a shooter on Nintendo. Nintendo will have to find a way to win the casual back like the Wii or accept selling 20 million consoles a generation.

They don't need to get the hadcore gamer back.

They need to retain their kids who become hardcore gamers. If they can satisfy them they will not move on and keep giving more market share away each gen. This is who they need to target.

Oh sure, because Call of Duty was doing such a great job bringing in shooter fans to the Wii U.

Its job was not bringing shooter fans to the console, it was avoiding that some casual leave it. It is pretty hard to sell a console to someone if said device does not cover the basic stuff that they look forward in one, now it lacks CoD, Madden, FIFA, and Assassin's Creed. Sure you can sell it as a secondary device, but not as a primary one, and the rate of 2 console ownership is lower than Nintendo could use.

Why not just go back to what works? I've said it many times before.

The James Bond game license is available. Activision didn't renew their Bond deal because they have COD which sells much more. You're not going to create a character "better than Bond" anyway ... Hollywood has been trying for 50 years.

It's too bad NOA doesn't have any real power anymore because they probably would bite in this case.

I think GoldenEye on Wii sold pretty well too, but probably would've sold a lot more had it come earlier in the Wii lifecycle when the system was red hot. By 2010 people had been burned by too much mediocre/shovelware type software. That's why Red Steel and things like that sold very well early in the Wii lifecycle, but Red Steel 2, which was a much better game didn't sell nearly as well. Came too late.

Plus GoldenEye on the Wii ... while a good game, it wasn't a *great* game like the N64 GoldenEye was. Give Nintendo that IP, let Retro develop it under Nintendo's guidance and you would probably see a legitimate great game (88+ Metacritic or higher).

Genuinely don't think anyone will care about another 007 game, no matter how good it is. And Retro can't do everything. The need new western studios.

or they could utilise Retro's talents better than games a B grade developer could make for Nintendo.
