Really good interview, a lot of insight, no bull, straight as it should be.

Yeah but you have to wonder why they cant just begin like this rather than create a shitstorm and then try to settle it down.

Well I think it was because they announced it at GamesCon & had to do so on a time limit.

Or y'know perhaps they decided they want an adventure game on their platform, and making one from scratch of Uncharted 4's quality would take much longer than 14 months.

So they're ensuring their platform has something solid in this genre that will be ready for fall 2015. Makes a lot of sense for them. Not so good for Sony, but that's not MS' problem.

They were going to get Rise Of The Tomb Raider as is. This was clearly done to boost Holiday 2015 sales by keeping one big name game away from PC/PS4. We'll see what the results are from the NPD in November or December 2015.

Now, obviously if I'm going to partner on it, I'm a platform holder, I'm hardly going to invest to go make the PlayStation version of any game. It is a business.

Take your business money and create your own franchise.

PC and Playstation players invest too. In their platforms. In the Tomb Raider franchise. Turns out we were investing towards a version of the game we don't get access too (for a time?). That's not business, it's douchebaggery.

People buy Nintendo systems for Nintendo IPs and Sony systems for Sony IPs. With this kind of short-term thinking Xbox is going to keep struggling, it is in no way a win/win considering they were going to get this game anyway. It's lose/lose; bad PR and wasted money.

edit: if making a Uncharted-like title "takes longer than 14" months than maybe they should have thought about starting it before they realized the PS4 was this generation's winner.

It's lose/lose for everyone. No one is gonna buy an Xbox to get Tomb raider a year early so that's wasted money from MS. PS4 users will just have to wait for Rise of the Tomb Raider: definitive edition holiday 2016.

Also to add MS did this BS last gen with BioShock, Mass effect and other games.

I know obviously 360 and Xbox One. I know that part of it. I don't know where else Tomb Raider goes. I don't.

But do you have a timeframe you've agreed upon in terms of the exclusivity you have? Do you have the exclusivity for a certain amount of time? That's what our readers are asking us to try to find out.

Phil Spencer: Yes, the deal has a duration. I didn't buy it. I don't own the franchise.

Timed exclusive.

And one or two other statements in that interview. This interview gave him the clear opportunity to say that RTR is not ever coming to PS or Nintendo (if it's releasing on 360 then it should go on Wii U given there's a low power version that can be ported). He didn't take that chance, so the balance of probabilities is that it will come to PS4, and not years later either. Though if they do make a 3rd game SE might bring RTR and TR3 out as a boxed set for PS4, much like what EA did with the ME trilogy as a way to get ME1 on PS3.

How is this a win win?
Xbox owners were going to get the game in holiday 2015 anyway, all this deal did was delay the game for PC and PS users. Its a smack in the face to long time fans combined with a ransom.

I forgot to add that SE is still the biggest culprit here. They needed a next gen rerelease to make the first game profitable, due to outlandish marketing costs. And most of the sales of that rerelease came from Playstation players. They pretty much saved it from being a technical/financial flop.
So..yeah. Nothing more needs to be said or explain why i'll never buy a SE game again on any platform. That goes for FF and KH too.
