Forums - Sales - The best game of all time is guilty for Abismal sales in July

GOTG/etc is debatable, hell maybe there are people out there that think Just Dance is the best game ever made.

As for causing bad software sales in July, what the whatty? No logic there, just clickbait. If more good/great games came out, software sales would be better. That's all there is to it. The market is willing and ready to buy whatever good stuff comes by, but if you release nothing, you get crap for sales. JFC, it's not complicated.

I love how you use the metascore to put down The Last of Us but then make an excuse for Super Mario Galaxy. Sorry but GTA IV is the highest rated game of the 7th console generation by metascore, no excuses. That being said, GTA IV and Galaxy "only" won 39 and 44 GOTY awards respectively whereas The Last of Us won 249.

I actually put GTA IV on there, it just has a substantially lower user score. That's all.

Game of the Year awards didn't exist in the current numbers as they did back in the day of many of these releases that came before the 7th Gen, its a terrible and lopsided metric. User scores and general reviewer scores, however, have existed in numerous quantities for ages.

I'm halfway through Last of Us and it's definitely out there so far among best games of all time. Would be hard to choose between GTA V, Red Dead Redemption, Bioshock, and Uncharted 2.

I like Red Dead but for some reason I can't see how people rank it so high all time.  Undead Nightmare is probably my favorite DLC of all time aside from perhaps Festival of Blook (there should be so many more holiday and halloween themed DLCs they're great to play during those times of the year annually).  Then again I'm weird because A Crack in Time is my favorite game of all time lol

You shouldn't be sorry for stating that. I'de say you should be sorry that you state them as facts. Because most people disagree with you.

They are facts.

Halo DID redefine and set a new bar for FPS games from controls to mechanics to atmosphere to gameplay. The game shaped two generations of FPS titles and gaming, and has defined the last decade of FPSs.

RE4 DID redefine and reinvigorate a genre. Most of what it did great many games subsequently copied, TLOU copied much of what made RE4 so good.

Metroid Prime was in fact a game that did just about everything right, and it was and still is just about the only game that has ever done FPPlatforming and done it well while also being a fantastically designed shooter. It's the definitive 3D Metroidvania game and about the only one (sequels too) that actually did 3D correctly.

Ocarina of Time was a gaming redefinining game. I don't think you'll actually find anyone who would argue this.

GTA redefined the whole gaming concept of open world gaming and player freedom.

Not to mention other games like Super Mario Brothers 2/3 or what have you that changed the shape of gaming and how it developed from then on in the history of gaming. To say "the best game of all time" is an utterly contrived and stupid statement and just shows a lack of genuine appreciation of everything that has been and will be, and how gaming as a whole has evolved time and again. "Best game of a generation" or "Genre Defining Game" are much better things to look into. All of the games I listed redefined or defined their particular genre or simply changes the course of gaming history.

TLOU is one of the best games of its generation but for being so great it still had its issues be it terrible AI, inconsequentiality of ally AI, or the glaringly bad scripting issues that were there for the sake of making gameplay bend to the will of the story. Is it the best horror-survival game? No, I don't think it is because I think that title belongs to RE4 and all of the creativity it brought to the table... much of which is actually used in TLOU. Is it still a great game? Yes, yes it is.

Is it the best game of its generation? For Survival-Horror it certainly is but in general? No, I wouldn't say that it is.

The best game of all time? Resident Evil 4 had nothing to do with this.

TLOU is the RE4 of the 7th Gen.

Is it fuck.

Both Breathed life into the survival horror genre, both considered amongst the best games of their generations, both raised the bar in what could be achieved in a 3rd person game using fine tuned gameplay mechanics whilst having an excellent narrative. Heck, both even are escort missions with Leon and Ashley and Joel and Ellie.

>Implying TLOU is a survival horror game.
>Implying Resident Evil 4 is a survival horror game.
>Implying Resident Evil 4 didn't kill the survival horror genre.

If you ask me, GotG goes to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. I don't think anyone here would disagree the impact that game has had on the industry.

I'll prefer it as a movie. Give me RE4 or Ratchet and Clank to play.

LOL. Those games don't come close to the gameplay in TLOU, but they are good.

It's especially funny when you consider the fact that his primary criticism of The Last of Us is the AI. The last time I checked Resident Evil 4 had laughably bad AI, worse than The Last of Us in many ways.

RE4 is older than TLoU though. It worked around the AI limitations by smart game design: micromanaging Ashley is binary. She can either wait in place or follow you. She either stands behind you or ducks whenever you aim your gun and in certain sections where managing her would be very difficult, there exists containers where she can be hidden allowing you to go all out.

Fuck I love RE4!

Adding the ability to hide Ellie, at least in a few of the more hectic situations, would have been a great lesson to take from Resident Evil 4. I watched the rest of the video and I must admit, the AI programmer Max was obviously dishonest which is disappointing. That being said, Resident Evil 4 still had lousy AI that was inferior to many other games at the time. I should not be able to kill a dozen Ganados by standing at the top of a ladder or on the other side of a window with a knife drawn. I also discovered an AI problem with one of the bosses which was pretty sad. Oh well, both games are overrated, still good though.

"That being said, Resident Evil 4 still had lousy AI that was inferior to many other games at the time"

Such as? I'm genuinely curious.

This. I was actually thinking about making a thread debating the topic to be honest. It changed the way games were made and completely changed the way microsft approached the gaming industry.
