I remember when I read on a magazine Twilight Princess would take you 45 minutes to ride from one edge of the map to the other...

Still doubt that it's a fully open world. I expect a lot of natural and artificial barriers as well as invisible walls that will guide the player. So essentially like every other Zelda game. A number of closed up areas connected by some stuff in between.

So to reach the farthest mountain I'd say you will have to take a lot of detours.

I'm aware of that as well, but the way that Aonuma makes you think that he really wants you to think the game is going to be huge. So by "A number of closed up areas connected by some stuff in between", I think you're referring to Twilight Princess, and that's what the guy is actually trying to avoid, I guess.

I'm more referring to more classical games like ALTTP or LoZ1. Some people might consider them open world but think about how many tiles you could walk in a straight line before being blocked by something and how a lot of areas only have a single entrance. This was continued even in the 3D games so I'm cautiously pessimistic about this open world claim.

well aounuma did say you can reach every area from any direction.

We'll see how true this will be. I'm very skeptical since there never was an open world Zelda. Even more so now that a lot of people claiming their games to be open world, which they are not.

I'm looking at you, DA:I and Xenoblade.

the first Zelda game was open world and by looking at the latest Zelda U trailer it really looks like you can go anywhere. I mean it would be pretty stupid if there were invisible walls in the middle of the map/world.

I think it will take as long as the time it takes you to get bored.
Once you past the surrounding mountains, you'll probably see more mountains, and they'll probably just keep reusing assets and randomly position them in front and around the player as he/she moves forward.
What worries me is that there may be nothing but trees and mountains beyond that, thus no point in going further. I hope they at least make a quest/mini-game out of it. The farther you go, the stronger the enemies get, and you get a required each time you pass a "level".

Hopefully at least 20 min by horse.

Frankly, I very much doubt that this is final, so it's probably pointless to speculate.

I'm hoping that this game is actually good, but there's not much to go on right now.
