Forums - Gaming - Shu Yoshida: Sony to focus on PS4 at TGS

Cripes. I have no idea how you can appear to disagree with me when you are actually confirming what I have been writing so far. Maybe it's all the tangents.

In summary: Sony realise that their customers generally see handheld gaming as a second-class activity, but they have business relations and a public image to maintain, so they are reluctantly taking their handheld strategy to the convalescent home, instead of smothering it with a pillow.

As for "cheap cost entry level platforms", they have the PS3 for that.

Lmao, oh I was not disagreeing with you, I was pointing out  to others that may not look at it the way we do, sorry if it seems as if I was disagreeing with you.

Sorry for the confusion. And yes they do have the PS3 but its way cheaper to manuf the playstation Tv and package it and ship it way lower cost completely, thus in china they already get the playstation Tv manufacturing done there anyway, its just a much lower cost investment which much higher profit/unit than the ps3  , not to mention its direct ties to the PS4 the playstation Tv being seen as a co-Companion game console sure does not hurt the added functionality of network connected benefits between playstation Tv and a ps4 along with playstation Now. But also in China PS3 is still slightly more expensive over playstation Tv anyway.

I AM BOLO

100% lover "nothing else matter's" after that...

ps:

Proud psOne/2/3/p owner.  I survived Aplcalyps3 and all I got was this lousy Signature.

How do you know? Including marketing costs, I doubt its profitable. Last year, Sony's game division reported a full year profit of just $18m. People said that the small profit was mainly because of Vita losses since the PS3 would have been very profitable by then. This year again, the division reported a loss of $78m. That loss is with PS plus subscirptions increasing substantially, PS4 reportedly being sold at a profit, and of course PS3 being sold at a profit. Since there would be very little research and development costs, the main culprit for the losses must be the Vita.

Ohh is game development free now ? majority of their studios have been burning through millions in dev costs while they not announced anything yet.

For all their studios teams they only released two big titles, Killzone and Infamous.  Tiny profits on hardware is not erasing massive development costs of World wide studios.  They need to drop some big sellers to do that.

The dev costs are offset by the revenue brought in through the release of new games. So although they are working on new games right now, Killzone and Infamous sales make enough money to cover those dev costs. Otherwise, according to your theory, the game division can never make profits until they stop making new games.

Killzone has sold 2.1m copies, Knack has crossed 1m,  Infamous has also crossed 1m. I'm sure all those games are profitable.

They had 3 games release on PS4 in nearly a year, Knack can barely be counted as half of its "sales" were free giveaways.

They got over a dozen studios 1st party alone, it takes constant big releases for them to profit. You think those 3 games did enough to cover at least 2 years of development for over a dozen ??? really.... especially sine Yosh said only 4/10 actually profit so its easy to tell it takes an Uncharted or Gran turismo to cover costs of a few smaller games.

They tried giving the vita AAA exclusives, and studio Liverpool died because of it. Sony should stop with handhelds.

A low budget Wipeout game did not kill Liverpool Studio. Sony killed them because of their financial situation and wanting to consolidate their first party development studios. Liverpool and Evolution were doing pretty much the same job and both rather expensive studios to run. Sadly outside Forza and Gran Turismo, there just isn't that much money in racing games which both studios specialised in and dev costs for them were only increasing while the audience was shrinking.

It's the same reason CodeMasters are struggling so much right now.

RIP Dad 25/11/51 - 13/12/13. You will be missed but never forgotten.

"Project Morpheus will have content that will be very appealing to the Japanese audience"

Eroge games for PS4 confirmed.

Also, PSVita dead - not surprising considering that Sony has all but forgotten about the system.

Oh, okay, I thought they said it was because WipEout bombed. But TBH, they only made WipEout games, so they had it coming. It still sucks for those who lost their jobs.

Exactly, they tried and no one bought the system. Now it's time to move on. I love my Vita and can't wait for Freedom Wars and the new Tales game for it. But to everyone who likes to chime and say Sony has no love for the Vita, it's the consumers that have no love for the Vita in the first place that caused this lack of new content.

It's the same with the Wii U and 3rd parties. If you want content on your system, you need to purchase the system. No way around that.

Famitsu interview with Yoshida-san

- Some new titles they planned to announce at Gamescom had to be cut out of the presentation; one of the reasons why was because they decided to put in new trailers for The Order and Bloodborne

- Sony will be working with other publishers in Japan to help increase the userbase of the PS4 in Japan

- PS4 will be be getting lots of new content at TGS

- Project Morpheus will have content that will be very appealing to the Japanese audience

- Studio that's developing WiLD are the new studio by the people that made Rayman

- Not a single mention of PSV/PS3/PSP

There will be game announcements for Vita, sure, but yeah, Vita is dead.
