Cros gen seems to only be afecting the x1 aparantly since the ps4 is flying of shelves. I highly doubt the x1 will sell a third of the ps4's numbers. I know multyplats are very important to allconsoles. But if the ps4 next year has almost all the games the x1 has except for 3, but the ps4 still has like 10 the x1 does not, people will take notice and keep choossing the ps4. You might think that releasing a bunch of little games wont help but they appeal to somebody. Another thing that you are probably tired of hearing is that the more ps4 sells, the more likely their friends of the owners will get a ps4 to play together and since a lot of them are 360 owners that jumped ships, well thats not going to be good for x1. Also tired of hearing the ps4's hardware supiriority so the x1 should not cost the same as the ps4. O and all 3 will get a pricecut next year so that will not influence anyone to choose the x1. Nintendo might not be selling right now due to the hypetrain the ps4 vs x1 war has had for over ayear. Any game nintendo released got overshodowed by everything else and people where waiting for the next big thing and fighting the console war and just ignored nintendo. But all that is over now and the hype is gone and nintendo went back into the light as x1 crashed and burned after loosing the war. Another thing is that unlike xbox games that sell all they are going to sell in the first month, nintendo games sell for years with every new console purchase so all those big hitters will come back in the holidays and theoff season next year. |
The lack of next gen exclusives is visibly effecting the PS4, but people can't see it becuase they are just caught up comparing it to the XO. PS4 is obviously the prefered platform, so will always have a higher baseline then Xbox. The Xbox is falling a tiny bit down in sales as a system with no exclusives and only cross gen titles should, similar to the Wii U in the same period last year (22k), but obviously the XBox is doing alot better (50k). The key point though is that its baseline has actually remained near where it was after the holiday hype (60k in feb). Proportionally the PS4 and Xbox One have fallen in sales by a similar amount, the pS4 was pushing 150k a week in feb (excluding Japanese sales), its now pushing 110k (ignoring TLOU Remaster Launch).
Do you see what I'm getting at? Im not saying that the Xbox will outsell the PS4 but that 3rd party releases will effect both systems proportionally and theres not yet any evidence to say otherwise. Watchdogs increased a higher percentage of PS4 sales but it was heavily marketed with the PS4, alongside having exclusive content and a bundle. It still had a effect on Xbox One sales. Looking at all other 3rd party releases (Tomb Raide, Thief, Wolfenstein) both systems hardware actually responded very similar to each other in terms of their % increase/fall.
Theif: XO -13%, PS4 -17%
Tomb Raider: XO +5%, PS4 +5%
Wolfenstein: XO +1%, PS4 -1%
Looking at the above, Its only logical that both systems will increase by a much higher percentage once next gen only games are released, obviously occasssions where the specific games are bundled with should see a higher percentage increase in sales for the hardware its bundled with. Now this isn't proof that the Xbox will outsell the Wii U, but with only 10k between their baselines, its hard to imagine that it won't with all the big upcoming 3rd party releases vs 1 big Wii U holiday release which doesn't even have a release date yet.
