True, but arcade games were introduced in 1966, predating the Magnavox Odyssey by 9 years. The golden age of arcade and the very first introduction of home consoles was hand-in-hand, but the first arcade games predated consoles by almost a decade.

Electro-mechanical games aren't video games.

The biggest improvements were probably microprocessors (you would only have stiff like PONG without them) and exchangeable cartridges.

They are arcade games though, and an early predecessor.

Going just by just by traditional video games, the first was introduced in 1971, still predating the Magnavox by 4 years.

I wouldn't say the best, but it's definitely up there.

and FTR, I despise the second analog stick XD

TCP/IP multiplayer gaming model that was invented during the coding of Quake 1 is by far the biggest enhancement, in my opinion. It is the basis of functionality of all high speed connection multiplayer gaming since its inception.

It's still very different...

Similar to the pinball companies that produced arcade video games in the 80's.

That's a SEGA EM game from 1970:

it probably is. maybe

This is more along what I was thinking (Missile, a 1969 EM game)

Not a video game, but still a lot of user input and an early predecessor.

Yes and no, i still play GT with out using them.

If GT = Gran Turismo:

Really? Why would you play a 3D racing game with a d-pad (unless GT was one of the early PS1 games before the dual-analogue controller)

Personally I think the d-pad should be scrapped in favour of face buttons (it is essentially just that in most games anyway, but 4 seperate buttons would feel nicer than the tilting d-pad) Then again I don't play fighting games which are supposedly far better with a d-pad, not sure why (button combos?) though I think fighting games would still work fine with a 4-button placement instead like the c directional buttons on the N64.

its more precise for me, better control.  analog stick are wonky to me.

Its a huge improvement but definitely not the greatest.
