Forums - Gaming - Spreading exclusives out over time is actually smart business from Sony.

I don't know why people aren't understanding this. Last gen, Sony literally flooded the market with exclusive after exclusive after exclusive. Not giving any of them the amount of marketing and exposure needed for them to sell like great franchises should. Giving all your first party studios time to develop the best game possible and release window that doesn't have it competing against your own companies exclusive games PLUS a crapload of annual releases that are guaranteed millions in sales (AC, COD, NBA 2K, Madden, FIFA, etc) is not only the best business decision to make but what's best for gamers. We are going to get high quality games released every year, first party studios are going to get more sales, and exclusives will get better and better and franchises will grow and realize their maximum potential because of it.

Honestly, all these people screaming they want games games and more games out right this moment, how many of you are a going to buy all of them? How many of you are going to convince your friends to buy them? Let's get real here, games are $60 a pop upon release, if you are a smart consumer like me you probably limit yourself to somewhere between 5-10 brand new games a year if not less. Releasing game after game after game after game within a short period of time just to say you have shitload of games out is a backward ass business decision. I guarantee we will see EXPONENTIALLY greater sales of all PS4 exclusives this gen because of this strategy. Furthermore, watch the month of October this year very carefully. For some stupid reason studios think it's a good idea to realease 15 solid games in the same month. Something good that should of been given the oppurtunity to sale is going to flop big time. Bet that up. Further proving that the flood the maket strategy is a counter productive one. Patience is a virtue.

That is all.

Obviously, I haven't even bought Watchdogs or ISS yet let alone any launch exclusives, barring Resogun.
I think the game I played that was exclusive to this gen was Resogun then MK8.

I doubt they are spreading them out on purpose. Development time is simply much, much longer with these shiny graphics that everyone wants. Games are getting harder and harder to make on time schedules we've been used to in the past. Hence everything and its dog being delayed.

I don't think they're actually influencing the time a game takes to make. Games come out when they're ready. It seems foolish to rush or delay games just to fit a certain schedule(aside from the usual holiday schedule).

But it definitely is better for the consumer to spread it out. Not so much for list wars though.

Oh trust me it's DEFINITELY on purpose. They will not repeat their mistakes from last gen. This should be CLEAR by now. Sony learned from mistakes last gen and haven't made a single one of them yet this gen. And the results are staggering to say the least. Possible PS2 domination underway.

Furthermore, don't be naive. You have to understand business. All these games getting "delayed" are not really delayed. They were announced and given favorable release windows to bring more gamers on board to next gen. The health of the industry depends on gamers buying a new console on good faith that great games are coming to it. Trust me, Batman was never releasing this year. Neither was the Witcher, The Division, or MGS5. It's all part of the plan.

What mistakes? They've won an uphil battle by pumping out exclusives as fast as possible.

Do you think they would've sold more consoles if they'd spread them out more evenly?

I'm not naive.

They are shoveling out exclusives and games as fast as they can because the development time IS getting very long (and unfortunately, quality has been subpar on everything but their port of TLOUR). There is a massive hunger for games, as can be seen by what hype and marketting can do for a pile of uninspired crap like W_D, but they cannot meet demand. They would LOVE to be able to meet it, they just can't. That's why they put forth all these indie games at things like gamescon. They simply have nothing else to show or present. (And, while those indies LOOK nice... most of them, when looked at with some skepticism, may be nothing more than fancy window dressing.)

M$ seems to have realized this and started applying the $ of their name to acquire as many games as possible from the third-party farms.

What mistakes? Did you really just ask that? lol okay, for anyone living under a rock the last 10 years let's recap. Arriving late to the party arrogantly (PS4 released before Xbox), having a monstrous price tag without the proof to justify it at launch (released cheaper than Xbox and still tons more powerful), no Dualshock at launch (DS4 in launch box), hard to develop for (if developers are to be believe PS4 is the easiest console to develop for EVER), pumping out exclusive after exclusive without a clever and business Davy marketing strategy this losing sales of quality games and closing down tons of studios (see OP), should I go on?

Yep patience is key, that's what we Wii U owners have been trying to say for months! But no one understands us...

This thread is about spreading out exclusives and you were talking about mistakes. Why would you suddenly bring in all their other mistakes that have nothing to do with this conversation?
