Forums - Gaming - Why is moneyhatting frowned upon?

I remember that sig Walsufnir had about Company A vs. Company B
Kind of reminds me of that scenerio. One does it and it's looked down upon, another does it and it's good for business. Double standards all around.

And how is that bad? I see it is giving gamers an incentive to get your platform over another. Microsoft has to get Sony's customers somehow.

Here's an idea, why don't they make their own games? Make one that people will want to buy an Xbone for. Halo was a game like that once. Are they too afraid to do another?

Microsoft already makes their own games. The Wii U is a prime example that first party exclusives won't net you sales, hence moneyhatting.

The question is why would a studio let themselves be money hatted. In reality, all things are business. Developers and publishers accept these types of deals because it reduce risk. The more risk a developer and publisher can reduce the better the bottom line. If the developer/publisher felt they could wing it on their own they would. Its more profit for them if the can release on multiple platforms and it also setup the sequel to sell even more including DLC. When all is said and done deals like this just fund the project, reduce the risk of miss in sales and help the studio/publisher to fund their next project.

It suck for one console only gamers but in the end, both systems will have plenty of games so it makes no difference to the overall outcome for either system.

I frankly don't care. It's not like there is a shortage of games. But I can understand fans being upset that they can't play games that they expected to play on their console of choice.

People can just be upset with themselves because they believe that they can "glassball into the future". Its their own fault for being so ignorant.

It is bad because in most cases the console in question would have gotten the game anyway, but it must share it with another console or two. Essentially the console-maker isn't paying to get the game to their console, but paying to keep it away from another.

If the only reason you are paying is to keep the game off other platforms, then it is dirty.

Now if the game was going to be canceled or something else like that and you pay money to fund the creation of the game then that is ok.

What if someone bought a PS4 because they liked games like Uncharted and Infamous, but also like games like Tomb Raider.

Maybe this person is a fan of Tomb Raider but can't afford an XOne or they don't want to buy an XOne for just one game.

They will just have to wait for the next one. People miss out on games often. A third party multiplat going exclusive wouldn't be any different.

Okay, what games? What new games, not Halo, Gears or some Dance thing for Kinect, are they making themselves? One that would be that game to move consoles from their own studios. Okay so Halo and Gears will but surely they need more than old franchises?

Wii U isn't selling because of lack of game support from 3rd parties, it is it's own games that are makign it sell.

Hmm, pie.

They were ignorant because they didn't know TR was going to be exclusive after it had been multiplatform for years?

Yeah they will have to wait for the next one. But is it right?

I don't see how anyone could think that a company paying to take a product away from potential customers is right.

Could someone give me an example of Nintendo or Sony moneyhatting an established multi platform franchise to become exclusive? I really can't think of any.

Edit: I just thought of RE4 but that more like an exclusive switching systems.

Are you joking? You should really check PS one's history...

Squaresoft got a new HQ paid by Sony for FF7, it is fine if you believe that Squaresoft could not made the game on a cartridge and that they could not made it on sega saturn CD's....but if you think a little more you will know better...

Tomb raider and MK trilogy were also games that were time exclusives for PS one because sony invested in heavy advertisements for those games..  If you would check old mags or mags likes Retrogamer you will find a lot of information about it;.

I don't mind it all, for me it is nothing else than investing hate it though when gamers hate not their favourte companies for doing it X_X..

Edit: Also don't forget the PS2 GTA's that were releasing six months later on Xbox...
