The question is why would a studio let themselves be money hatted. In reality, all things are business. Developers and publishers accept these types of deals because it reduce risk. The more risk a developer and publisher can reduce the better the bottom line. If the developer/publisher felt they could wing it on their own they would. Its more profit for them if the can release on multiple platforms and it also setup the sequel to sell even more including DLC. When all is said and done deals like this just fund the project, reduce the risk of miss in sales and help the studio/publisher to fund their next project.
It suck for one console only gamers but in the end, both systems will have plenty of games so it makes no difference to the overall outcome for either system.
