Forums - Gaming - Why is moneyhatting frowned upon?

Do you have any statistics to show that Microsoft pays so much more to devs for exclusive games?

For one, most of the time, there is absolutely no way to tell if any money was truly exchanged. For all we know, Bloodborne could be a moneyhatted title as well. Why aren't you complaining about that?

Moneyhatting is a part of the business. All the console manufacturers do it to a huge degree, whether it be securing entire games or DLC. You can't call one of them out without calling all of them out.

I can single out MS because they're the worst of the worst. And all manufactureres do it to a "huge" degree? Nintendo's biggest game is MK8 which was developed IN HOUSE. It wasn't created by a studio Nintendo bought. It wasn't created by a third party and then moneyhatted. It was created by Nintendo's own team that was built BY the company from the ground up years and years ago.

What is MS biggest franchise? Halo. And you know who created Halo? Bungie, not MS. MS moneyhatted and then bought that IP. They didn't create it. That's the different between them and the other two. They can't do it by themselves.

Oh, so that's how you wanna play. Alright, how about Sony buying Naughty Dog, or Nintendo buying Monolith Soft?

Oh but no, continue believing that Microsoft is the only big bad wolf in the industry, please do.

You really should do your homework before making such statements.  Whats the biggest and best received Franchise from Sony.  Hmmm Could it be Naughty Dog.  Is Naughty Dog an in hourse Sony development studio???  Exactly how many studios did Sony purchase during the PS1/2 days when they were going toe to toe with Nintendo and then MS.  Really, if you are going to prefer one corporation over another, its best to structure your argument where it doesn't have so many holes.

I'm a Nintendo supporter so your Sony bashing doesn't affect me at all. I think Sony is by FAR the more genuine gaming company, as evident by how many first party AAA games they release, but ultimately, both pale in comparison to Nintendo who's been using their own staff to make genre defining games years before the other two were even iN the console industry.

Moneyhatting. Exclusivity or timed exclusivity, not because your console is any good or something, but because you truck loads of money to the developers.

For the record, Bayonetta 2 was not money hatted. The game would not exist, period, without the money fronted by Nintendo.

Tomb Raider exclusivity being bought out by MS is money hatting and it is a real slap in the face of XBONE owners. It basically says that MS 1st party developers are not yet good enough to drive good XBONE sales. That MS needs to throw more and more money at the console to remain competitive.

This is a third generation console for MS. Their need to money hat should be over. It just shows that the XBOX brand is not nearly as strong as people think.

I think it was a good move by Microsoft, but they should have kept it exclusive to XBO, not making it multiplat like they did with Ryse.

It's too soon to start defending money hats en masse. There haven't even been any death threats against Square Enix yet.

If you believe Sony is more genuine thats your opinion.  I personally believe that no corporation is genuine.  Each console maker has shone they will say whatever they believe the general consumer will believe because no one do any research on the net.   Sony release more first party games because they bought a lot of studios.  Actually now, Sony has less first party studios than MS now.  In the last 3 years, Sony has closed down 4 of their first party studios, while I believe MS has created (not bought) 3 new studios.

I will agree that Nintendo has the best internal studios that have made great hits for years, but even Nintendo knows talent and purchase Retro Studios.
