Forums - Gaming - What is an Exclusive?

ugh people that try to argue that because it is on PC as well it isn't exclusive annoy me. It is still a console exclusive, just like Final Fantasy 14, and soon Planetside 2 will be for PS4. Besides using that simplified definition that would also make TLOU a multiplat...

But it completely loses its purpose as an exclusive if it's on PC.

The chances of me getting an Xbox One have fallen because Ryse is on PC. My friend will not be buying an Xbox One if the Master Chief Collection is on PC

The Last of Us is a "PlayStation Exclusive" though yes, it is on multiple platforms

The thing to consider is that Microsoft get no money through me buying Ryse, Steam do. When I buy the Last of Us, Sony will get royalites for every game sold on their platforms (though in this case they have made the game themselves, so will get more)

In the console market I have always thought of it as a game on one platform and not on the others. PC is irrelevant.

Taking on adjectives adjectives for the sake of list wars, some people take this console war stuff to seriously.
Why not call them Xbox or Playstation Multiplats, because that is actually truer. Its a game that is on multiple PlayStation/Xbox platforms.
You only call them exclusives, because you want to count them on your lists of exclusive games.
Its childish really.

I considered Titanfall an Xbone exclusive and it's the reason I own an Xbox One instead of a PS4. That doesn't mean it has to be included in list wars. Or anything regarding console wars.

If you don't like peoples lists, make your own list. It's not hard.

I have alway viewed it as exclusive to a certain set of cosoles, be it Playstation Home console+Handheld, XBox360+X1, WiiU+3DS and so on. PC attracts a different group of people in alot of ways, just like smartphones/tablets attracts other groups of people.

Basically, games that differs one console brand from another, I count as exclusives.

Fluffing up your exclusive list by coming up with Microsoft exclusive or whatever is just, well kind of sad. Exclusive means exclusive, something you can't play anywhere else. One platform only.

I suppose if a game is is only on 360/X1 it could count. But the moment a game is on PC, it's no longer exclusive

If it's on another platform, it's not exclusive, period. PC, mobile, handheld, doesn't matter which.

I don't count PC in this for one very simple reason, most console gamers don't bother with PC. If a PC gamer wants to play exclusive X and he needs a console, he will either bite the bullet and pass or buy said console. I know I know, it is still pushing the console sale. The problem with considering this multiplat is the PC will always be in a different league than consoles. MS and Sony get most of their profits through software sales, so even if this PC gamer buys one or two games for said console, 99% of all other games will be bought for their PC. This makes the whole area a "small fish is a large ocean" type of situation and has little to no impact on the grand scheme of things to said brand.

A console gamer looking to buy one console however is going to see what CONSOLE exclusives are available and what appeals to them. The rest of their software choices will likely follow suit and it makes a much bigger impact.

So by definition yes, a PC and console release isn't an exclusive. But in the discussion of consoles this is really a moot point. Now I know this will always be a grey area due to the fact that there are some people out there that do game on PC and buy consoles for exclusives, but it is never as large a user base as fanboys like to claim. Many of the people (not all) who claim they do this are simply just fanboys trying to make an argument for why they can play the other console's exclusives, even though they don't own a gaming rig or it isn't even powerful enough to matter.

I went PS4 due to PS4 exclusives being more my taste with Final Fantasy XIV, Killzone (hate on haters), Infamous, Driveclub, The Order, Bloodbourne, and Uncharted all catching my eye, not to mention the countless other franchises and developers that come with the PS brand. Meanwhile I buy all multiplats for that platform as well. Had I owned a good gaming rig, I can assure you 99% of my games would be purchased there with my console being a last resort.

Ok so it wasn't so simple to explain as I thought, but it is the truth non the less. =P

Its a multiplat though, an Xbox-Only Multiplat. Calling a game that is on mutiple platforms any kind of exclusive is egregious.

The Wii U not getting Multiplats is a reason to not own the system yes? Its no different just because its not on the PS4. This "Console Exclusive" terminology was fabricated by the internet to disguise multiplats as an exclusive. Their is no need though, cause they are many previous examples of multiplats excluding a platform.

Not to menton, It being on the 360 or PC is also not a reason to own a PS4, hence Multiplat.

lol @ egregious.

For me it essentially was an exclusive. Did Xbone have it? Yes. PS4? No. That was all that mattered.

And for the type of people you're talking about who use it for list wars, in their own way it makes sense. Does it really matter if Last of Us is on PS3, if you're comparing a list of Xbox One and PS4 exclusives? All that really matters is you can't play it on Xbox One.

You're welcome to disagree, but that's just your opinion.
