Forums - Gaming - What is an Exclusive?

lol @ egregious.

For me it essentially was an exclusive. Did Xbone have it? Yes. PS4? No. That was all that mattered.

And for the type of people you're talking about who use it for list wars, in their own way it makes sense. Does it really matter if Last of Us is on PS3, if you're comparing a list of Xbox One and PS4 exclusives? All that really matters is you can't play it on Xbox One.

You're welcome to disagree, but that's just your opinion.

At the very least you understand why I find it silly. Your welcome to call it an exclusive because its not on one platform versus another, but then how exactly is that different from a multiplat? Destiny isn't on Wii U, TitanFall isn't on PS4, and Planetside 2 isn't on Xbox One. Why is Destiny called a multiplat but TitanFall called a console exclusive when they are literally doing the exact same thing?

There is a difference between something making sense to all and something make sense to an individual person, its called objective vs subjective.

I bet the world being flat made a lot of sense to a lot of people.

If you're comparing the PS4 library to the Wii U, then Destiny would basically be like an exclusive. It's not coming to Wii U. Of course it's not exactly like Titanfall because TF isn't on PS4 or PS3. Destiny is hitting every console except Nintendo ones.

If you're comparing all 3 next gen consoles then Destiny would not be an exclusive because it's on two of them.

If you're comparing all platforms including PC then PS4 and Xbone lose a lot of their exclusives and even if you let them keep them PC would obliterate both of them in a massacre.

It's so easy people, now repeat with me:

An exclusive is what ever fits my agenda!

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

The fact that it is relative, that it changes with each context its in, means its not a valid definition, or at the very least its a definition with a crap load of clauses.

A defintion should remain true in all contexts.

If it changes because of what you are comparing it to, then the definition could be anything you want. If you compare the Sky to something in the Ultraviolet, you can say the Sky is much redder, and you wouldn't be wrong but the context would be subjective and the obseration meaningless.

I mean, using your logic, you could say every game was exclusive to any platform if you compare it to say an Ouya or a mobile phone, let alone against itself.

Just the context that I'm speaking from is the Objective one which compares a game on every platform in the industry, if a game is on more than one platform, its a Multiplat a.k.a multiple platforms, if its only on one platform, its an exclusive.

The only difference, between a multiplat and "Console Exclusive", as I've explained in another thread, is simply the conotation.

The title of Exclusive holds a lot more prestige then Multiplat, even though "Console Exclusive" and Multiplat describe the exact same thing. A buzzword that grants a Multiplat some of the prestige of an exclusive, although its not as prestigious as an actual exclusive.

Similar to how a sqaure is a fancy type of rectangle, your "Console Exclusive" is just a fancy type of Multiplat.

Its very simple to understand

Exclusive - One Platform
Console Exclusive - Xbox and PC, 3DS and WiiU, and PS4, PSV, PC  (TitanFall, Smash Bros, Sly Cooper)
Timed Exclusive -

DOnt over-complicate things. People completely understand what these mean, people just like to argue.  YOu dont need a video to explain this, or paragraphs either. And people know full well what people are talking about before they start theyre pointless arguments over the topic

An exclusive is any game made by Nintendo,

"I think it will be the HDS"-Me in regards to Nintendo's next handheld.

Since when has this not been the case? Even Microsoft and Sony use terms like "console exclusive" and "timed exclusive".

A defintion should remain true in all contexts.

Nah, doesn't work that way.

If it changes because of what you are comparing it to, then the definition could be anything you want. If you compare the Sky to something in the Ultraviolet, you can say the Sky is much redder, and you wouldn't be wrong but the context would be subjective and the obseration meaningless.

Cool beans. Doesn't pertain to games though.

I mean, using your logic, you could say every game was exclusive to any platform if you compare it to say an Ouya or a mobile phone, let alone against itself.

When you have to make a reach like that, I know I am right.

Just the context that I'm speaking from is the Objective one which compares a game on every platform in the industry, if a game is on more than one platform, its a Multiplat a.k.a multiple platforms, if its only on one platform, its an exclusive.

That works fine when you're comparing the exclusive library of all platforms. When you're not, there is room for other games. Again, even Microsoft and Sony do this.

The only difference, between a multiplat and "Console Exclusive", as I've explained in another thread, is simply the conotation.

The only things that really matters when comparing a multiplat to a "console exclusive" are the consoles being compared.

The title of Exclusive holds a lot more prestige then Multiplat, even though "Console Exclusive" and Multiplat describe the exact same thing. A buzzword that grants a Multiplat some of the prestige of an exclusive, although its not as prestigious as an actual exclusive.

lol @ prestige. Sounds like you might be the one taking list warz a bit too seriously.

Similar to how a sqaure is a fancy type of rectangle, your "Console Exclusive" is just a fancy type of Multiplat.

Awesome!

Its simple to understand, but its also wrong.

Instead of making a whole bunch of a individual clauses to define what you call a "Console Exclusive", simply saying its exclusive to a Console's Brand will suffice. Especially considering examples such as LBP3 which isn't on PS3, and Destiny which isn't on Wii U.

Granted its essentially a multiplat on limited platforms, because as soon as you exceed one platform, its multiplat.

But simply put, you only call it a Console Exclusive cause its sounds better than Multiplat, although there is nothing wrong with generalizing a broader category.

I.E A console exclusive is a special form of Multiplat, in the same way a square is a special form of rectangle.
