Forums - Gaming - Double Standards Much?

2 different games.. I dont care about remasters getting good sales. It doesnt hurt in any way current gen. What i want is for old gen to die off so limitations of cross gen titles dissapear. Im gonna vote with my wallet and just hope that the old gen title fails miserably so that they wont try it again next year. Still better than releasing the same title on all systems.

But why? None of those games are cross-gen, so they aren't being limited like AC4 was. AC Unity will be a truly next-gen title while Rogue will be a nice game to play on old gan.

Rogue in no way hurts Unity.

I don't get this mentality when some of the same people praise TLOU:R. TLOU:R was released on a new generation so people that didn't have access to the original could play it. Rogue is being released so people who don't yet have new consoles have a chance to play AC without having the main game gimped due to it being cross-gen. In a way, it's the same concept. Giving more people access to a series.

I don't agree.  Early adopters of new consoles are typically savvy hardcore gamers that have owned the previous generation and are upgrading because they want the latest new tech, even if there aren't enough games in the library to justify a new console for the vast majority of people.  So, I think it's the opposite.  The LoU:R is actually selling predominantly to people that owned a PS3, and those people are either re-purchasing the game again because they liked it so much, or they skipped it on PS3 because they knew the PS4 was coming out and a PS4 port was inevitable.  Either way, I don't think it's typically the case that early adopters of new consoles are people that didn't own the previous generation console.  That's usually more indicative of people buying new consoles in the mid-to-late lifespan of a system, when the price of entry is lower and there are a large selections of games at low prices.

Ehh, a LOT of early adopter PS4 gamers were 360 exclusive gamers last gen. There are tons of polls on GAF, here, everywhere that show that to be the case, and the sales split shows that is probably the case. People that buy $399 and $499 consoles aren't the casuals. These are the people who played one or both consoles last gen fairly seriously, and that shows on the software sales. PS4 new releases regularly sell more than 360/PS3 releases even with a fraction of the install base.

I bought TLOU last time, and am not planning to buy it again. I do think it was a good move to release a PS4 version though, because of all the people that missed it last time.

A lot of people are really hating on the new Assassins' Creed games because Ubisoft is releasing 2 of them, one exclusive for each gen. I've noticed that a lot of the same people are ardent suporters of remasters like TLOU:R. Isn't it a bit hypocritical to criticize Ubisoft in this case?

I think it isn't and I tell you why. The Last of Us, just like GTA V, was designed for the 7th gen (they were even announced before the 8th gen consoles). However, since nowadays games are taking years to develop, GTA V and TLoU got into the "unpleasant" situation of being released in the same year as the next gen consoles. Then, the producers decided to launch enhanced versions for the 8th gen one year after the original release. Therefore, we can take it as a lesser evil (it would have been worse not to allow the next generation to play them and having to wait 4 or 5 years to play an eventual sequel) from an undesirable situation.

Assassin's Creed Unity/Rogue are the exact opposite. It is a premeditated move from Ubisoft to recycle the game to the previous generation (Rogue) after announcing an iteration totally 8th gen (Unity). Gamers perceive it's a cash-grab rather than an attempt to continue the evolution of the series.

I think the issue with Assassin's Creed is the annual releases - which are now even more frequent than annual.  I've now stopped playing Assassin's Creed because I've just had too much of it.

It's almost in the same category as Call of Duty, or Guitar Hero before they overdid it and finally killed it off.

Yep. This is what i'm talking about. Unsure why this reason is being ignored. The real double standard is everyome tearing into COD and NSMB while high-fiving Ubisoft for doing this.

Plus, correct me if i'm wrong but aren't Assassin's Creed games selling less with each new version? Or am I mistaking that with something else.

Whether or not AC is annulaized too much has nothing to do with the thread, the thread is just about how Ubisoft decided to bring an Assassins' Creed for each gen, so everyone could enjoy the franchise (if they so wish).

If you don't like it, fine, but this thread isn't about bashing AC. Do that elsewhere.

Both are cash grabs.

Technically speaking... every single game is a cash grab. Its not like devs live on rainbows and shit....

To OP: I don't understand what the reasoning is for anyone doing what you are talking about. Personally, I couldn't care less if they wanted to release another version of th egame for the 3ds/vita and another one for android/IOS. I will just get the one for the platform I own or the one that seems to be the best version if I own more than one supported platform.

Bashing AC? I didnt say I didnt like it once. Heck, I literally said I was neutral to this because I havent played AC before. I played a tiny bit of one and found it incredibly fun, even.

The thread is asking what problem people might have with the two games releasing and I answered it.  I'm simply stating an opinion people have. All ive seen from this thread is ""people dont like it because they're whiny babies""

who specifically can you apply this to?...

and if you can name such a person or persons would it not make far more sense to pm them and discuss this with them instead of generalising which waters down any point you were trying to make?

man up and call someone out so we can actually have a relevent discussion here
