Forums - Microsoft - I pity/like Don Mattrick

Unless you follow everything Xbox, The first time you must have heard about Mattrick would be the One Reveal.

Mistakes were made, things we're said,

But I the hate I see Mattrick recieve over the internet is appauling.

The guy's a veteran, been in the industry since he was a youngling.

The most ridiculous claims I've seen on this site, some people saying stuff like now that Mattrick's gone, the XB1 will be a better console and all that Jazz.

A lot of work goes into a console, even if he was the head its not like he's solely responsible, hell this has basically been the vision since the OG. And their are tons of people at microsoft who are saying equally stupiddamaging things, even after he was gone

He was made into a scapegoat so people could forgive the XB1. I mean Mattrick was leaving for Zynga anyway, so they just blamed him for what he said when in reality a lot of the policies of the Original One were voted on by various members and stuff.

What I'm saying is:

think Mattrick is a pretty cool guy and doesn’t afraid of anything.

He sat there and said nothing while Spielburg lectured him on why movies were superior to video games. He's a tool and that's pretty much it. You think Shu or Iwata would have their life's work disrespected like that?

I don't hate him (well not anymore at least) because i'm pretty sure he wasn't the only one who schemed up those X1 policies. But at the same time I don't like him either.

Don Mattrick is Jesus.

He Zynga'd for Microsoft's sins.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

in the end he was used as a scapegoat.

Oh, I missed that!

Was just reading the comment from Lucas:

"The big game of the next five years will be a game where you empathize very strongly with the characters and it’s aimed at women and girls. They like empathetic games. That will be a huge hit and as a result that will be the “Titanic” of the game industry, where suddenly you’ve done an actual love story or something and everybody will be like ‘where did that come from?’ Because you’ve got actual relationships instead of shooting people."

.... and I think that game is called Beyond 2 Souls.  Not so big & successful though.

He lost every ounce of what little respect I had for him when he said this:

Veteran or not, the man did horrible job at representing the xbox brand and MS (on the year of the reveal, not sure about before then) with some of the stupid shit he pulled out, most noticeably, the buy a 360 crap.

One bad day, putting his head on the line saying things the company agreed on forfeits his entire history in the industry?

Mattrick was just a scapegoat, he was representing the beliefs of the Xbox brand at the time, but people seem to think his dismisal meant Xbox is going in a new direction.

It was Xbox who said "Don't have internet, buy a 360." Mattrick was just the messenger.

They knew he was going to Zynga so he was the scapegoat. You still have the friggen ceo flat out saying its non essential, any one with any knownledge of how PR works knows thats the equivalent of saying its not important to us/ we don't care about it.

Nobody put a gun to his head. If he is a veteran, with any sense of intelligence and experience, he should have known how pissy we gamers are and even thinking about saying something like that should have been a red flag.

He represents a company and brand, sure, but he is his own damn man. Have some balls and admit to mistakes or answers questions outside of the script. Also, the original Xbox One policies and stuff was awful and he had no problem just spewing all that crooked philosophy of how this is the evolution of gaming, blah blah blah. Right there, I knew, he did not have the best intentions for gamers (aside from the supposed family sharing feature)

I don't respect puppets and apparently, that's what you consider him to be.

so ridiculous it turned out true

other than that accurate prediction, any example of how he was used as a "scapegoat" ? such strong terms would deserve a strong example...
