I never liked WoW much, but why are you guys hating on it? :(

It's not so much that it's a bad game, it's just that it's pretty much ancient in terms of everything and is holding back the entire MMO genre. Everyone is on WoW, so the newer, more modern MMOs tend to get overlooked.

Exactly!

It was innovative 10 years ago, but now nothing short of the third coming of Jesus can top Wow, and an MMO is such an investment then even if you try to play it safe and copy what works it could still be disatrous.

Its like an Elder Dragon. Its old for a reason, but the other dragons won't ever be as strong as it if they can't defeat it.

Its the WoW end of expansion lull, of course it lost subs. They come back once the expansion hits.

The newer MMOS failled to top WoW, if they were realy good theyd have managed to take top spot from the king, wich is very old by now but is still a great game. Guild Wars 2 had some new ideas but executed quite a bit of them pretty badly, also had no end game content wich got ppl back to wow a couple months after its release. Swtor was kinda fun but also lacked end game and it was mostly a wow clone. FF XIV was atrocious at lounch, after the relauch it became a realy good game but theres nothing ground breaking there, and the damage was done already by the incredibly crappy first version of the game, itll is sucessfull and will remain so but it wont beat WoW.Wildstar has potential but it has a tone and a visual style that limits its chance for a broader sucess.

WoW just kept beeing WoW and nobody managed ot create somethign better, its not holding anything back its everyone else that cant top it.

The newer MMOs fail to match WoW because very few people bother playing them. WoW takes up an insane amount of subscribers, and most people don't subscribe to two different MMOs. It means less of a market for the other MMOs to grow in.

                                                                                                               You're Gonna Carry That Weight.

Xbox One - PS4 - Wii U - PC

Other subscription MMO's have MILLIONS less and are still running fine, In 2013 WoW made Blizzard 1 billion.
You should expect lower subs at this time of year as everyone is waiting for the expansion, even I have let my sub run out cause the same content has been out for months, not gonna kill the same bosses every week for this long. There will be a huge spike when it releases I can guarantee. Sorry to say, but WoW will not "die" any time soon. The only thing that can kill WoW is Blizzard themselves as shown time and time again with these "WoW killers" coming and going as quickly as they came.

It's impressive that WoW still has 6.8m subs after 9/10 years. I won't miss it once it's gone, but credit where credit's due.

yeah people use the word phenomenon way too much but I dub this game just that.  Can't think of another online community that is so huge and consistant for so long.  A decade of play is something to be appreciated no matter what you think of the game (personally I find it dull) because we see all these universally hailed or highly publisized games fall off the radar in 6 months.  I mean there've been how many CODs released since WOW came out?

its bound to die someday. i wonder what happened to that "code name titan" game blizzard were making.

it basically got scrapped and started over.

anyway subs will definitely go up again cause of new expansion coming in a few months.

I quit playing WoW in 2007 I think it was and haven't touched it since, Why? Because I love games and my love for WoW made me play 24/7. It was a great game and possibly the game where I have most of my gaming memories. It was a truly epic experience, and sometimes (as strange as it is) I still catch myself dreaming about the times I wandered around picking herbs, etc. Great atmosphere in that game. Grinding was a bit boring at times, but hey, nobody forced you to grind!

I have since then move to consoles. Before WoW, I was mostly a single player/local multiplayer gamer. WoW forever changed my view on online gaming. If I could, I would still play, but it sucked too much out of my life. I simply could not stop playing. One day, I just left, and I have never logged on since...

But WoW is (was at least) an epic game. Haters gonna hate ye, but they can just hate on.

My thoughts exactly. One day I think it was 2 weeks before the WotlK launched and I just asked myself "why?" your going to do the same thing and I have logged on a few times but ive gained a couple levels and stop again. I stopped in 2009...and have logged in maybe 4 times since then. Each time putting up another month and played 2 days max lol.

So if the sub is $15, than it's like Blizz is selling monthly 1,7M units of a 10 years old game for $60?

Hate all you want, WoW numbers are amazing.

I don't get how it can still be so successful considering how many great Free-to-Play MMO's there are nowadays. Plus every single person I know that used to play WoW stopped a couple of years ago. None of my friends even talk about it apart from a guy who was considering selling his character, since he was fully leveled up.

Anyway. Good for Blizzard.

you think who ever still plays warcraft has any friend?
