Forums - Nintendo - Mario Kart 8 Reaches 2.82mil Worldwide in Just 1 Month (32 Days/33 for Japan)

With that sales I think Mario Kart 8 will be the game of series which has the highest percentage in relationship to the userbase. Nearly all Wii U owners will have played Mario Kart 8 except the haters.

I don't hate Microsoft, I don't hate PC,
I don't prefer Sony, I don't prefer Nintendo.
...Ok, I love Nintendo but this is something about tolerance, ok?

I'm a gamer with one of the greatest hobbies and I want to share this greatness with everyone.

Lol.

Big numbers for MK8. Surely will drive more hardware till the holidays. Smash + MK always a great combo.. I hope it manages to do well this holiday season

Really really well ! Will probably reach the 5m+ by the time January starts.

Heck it will outsell NSMB U lifetime - it has to lol.

damn go kart go.

They should use this game mechanics and engine for more racing games.

Quarter (april to june) hardware sales from Nintendo : 3DS = 0,82 million, Wii U = 0,51 million

Quarter (april to june) hardware sales from VGchartz : 3DS = 1,50 million, Wii U = 0,69 million

I would love VGchartz numbers to be true, but they are not...

Yeah.. VGChartz is definitely off with 3DS numbers.... Specially with the European numbers! >_>

The other thread got locked, so I'll post this comparison here. It's the comparison of the sales of Mario Kart Wii during its first few months on the market, both have their respective launch sales up to June 30th of their years. Note, that MKWii had an little over an extra month compared to Mario Kart 8. These numbers are directly from Nintendo's financial reports, and are shipped values. Mario Kart 8 was at 2.0 million sold-THROUGH to customers around the end of June, so currently, it's probably around 2.3 million +/-  sold-through as a rough estimate, since it's been a month since that 2.0 million figure.

Mario Kart Wii - 6.42 Million
Wii Hardware - 29.6 Million
21.6 % Attachment Rate

Mario Kart 8 - 2.80 Million
Wii U Hardware - 6.68 Million
41.9% Attachment Rate

High attachment rate is a nice figure, but let's not get over ourselves either (though, it'll be curiously interesting if those same people talking negatively about the high attachment of MK8 also praise the somewhat high attachment rate of Watch Dogs on PS4....). 510,000 Wii U consoles is a nice number, brings up our spirits a little, knowing that there have probably been around 300,000 +/- new Wii U owners because of Mario Kart, but it's not good compared to Nintendo's last unsuccessful console the GameCube. Mario Kart 8 is probably Wii U's largest game release it'll ever have (unless Wi U gets another game that can sell as fast as Mario Kart 8 AND have the amazing legs it'll have over time). The next big Wii U game is Smash Bros, but that's NOT gonna outsell Mario Kart 8 in lifetime sales, it's way more front-loaded and won't be strong in over-time sales. Let's hope Nintendo keeps up with bringing more successes like this. Well, not selling that much in a short period of time, but breaking expectations.

That's crazy. When Nintendo makes games people want on the system they want it on, people but those games. Who knew?

Stop calling the Gamecube a failure. It made Nintendo tons of money.

not bad, not bad at all

though MK8's sales will be a far cry from Mario kart Wii's sales. up until this day i cant understand how that managed to sell that much lol. still, this is doing a lot better than i expected. can it reach 10 million?
