Spoilers for Demon's Souls ending:

If you choose to kill the maiden in black, the grey fog shrouding Boletaria eventually consumes everything and civilization ends. At the start of Dark Souls you're told that the entire world is shrouded in a grey fog where only the eternal dragons lived, but there's evidence that other creatures lived there previously. The true King Allant's words during and after fighting him can be seen as foreshadowing the curse of Dark Souls. There are a lot of easter eggs between all 3 entries to the souls series hinting that they're connected

i can see how you can think that DaS is the continuation of DeS bad ending

but in thruth that is a PERSONAL interpretation of the ending of DeS and the beggining of DaS and there is no undeniable proof that actually conects both games.

and all of the other connections that you talk about are simply easter eggs, homages or simple phrases that people like to give their own personal interpretation, and thats the thing whith this games they are very vague so a lot of the things said in both games can be interpreted differently by everyone, and therefore you get people trying to connect both games. but there is no undeniable proof conecting both games, just phrases of NPCs and events that people like to give "their" own personal interpretation, and easter eggs or homages that are not that different from Patches who even appears in armored core, they are references (homages to other games) just like Patches is a reference to all their other games including AC.

Believe what you want. You're as biased as it gets.

lol, what does any supposed bias have to do with a word I typed?

Take out the irrelevant stuff about how Sony helps studios, and you're left with you implying From is "mostly" responsible. So should they not "mostly" get the credit? Or does a 20 year history and 60+ released games not mean a thing until Sony Japan graces you with their presence

Assisted is the word. Assisted. Any way you slice it Sony helped and published it. They just didn't believe the game would become as huge as it did. Sony has gained a huge reputation for not just paying companies to make games but helping them make it. Demon Souls was supposed to be a successor to Kings Field, but the head of Sony Japan saw the flaws in those games and wanted to help make he game better. It was a tandem creation even though it came from the spiritual roots of Kings Field. This is why I give Software major credit for the game because at its core it is their game, but without Sony the direction would've been similar to their past games. Dark Souls is an offshoot product of the same concept. Anytime Sony and Software make a game its something special.

My only regret was that Sony couldn't help them with Enchanted Arms because that was multiplat from the start. Game would've been so much better.

No love for 3d dot game heroes ? :(

I liked this game, very cool.

Uh, I'm pretty sure FromSoftware made FromSoftware notable. Sony just helped a bit on Demon's Souls. (could have just been mild consulting and providing some tools).

Just like, I'd say, Rareware made Rareware notable, not Nintendo.

Not really but I think all their games outside Souls games sucks.

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

FROM made themselves into a respectable developer.

No. The souls series made From Software into a respectable studio and plus games like chromehounds and armored core were actually fairly popular despite mixed reviews.

I never claimed anything other than it fit well into the lore, which it really does. DeS "evil" ending fits perfectly with DaS opening, just as an "evil" ending to DaS fits the world of DaS2.

The bolded was my original point, the following is speculation.

When you no longer have the rights to something, all references become "easter eggs" and a sequal becomes a spiritual successor, unless you want to be sued. Stones, characters, items, areas are all mentioned or make an appearance and the end of one leads perfectly into another. We'll never really know now because they can't say it was in the same universe regardless.

Again, all irrelevant. Maybe you are thinking the thread title is "Has Sony Made Demon's Souls a Well Respected Game?" because only then would all this stuff about how involved Sony supposedly was and what changes they supposedly made actually mean something.

The title asks if Sony made From Software a well respected studio. So again, I ask you. In their 60+ game history, do you think From Software was already well respected, or not? Thanks.

Also, regarding the role the "head of Sony Japan" had in the game, you should tell the director Hidetaka Miyazaki about that because he apparently disagrees. According to him there was very little ever changed from the design his team initially presented to Sony and they even expected Sony at some time to drop in and tell them to "casual up" the game a bit and make it more accessible but Sony never told them to change anything. You're giving From Software too little credit and, per usual, Sony too much.

I would agree that Sony made Demon's Souls a better game. They were a great partner and other publishers would have asked for more changes. Of course, that's an entirely different question than the OP is asking.

Niche games generally have low metacritics, AC has a die hard fanbase and since I started with For Answer I've loved the series

OT: From was AA, then

Demon and Dark Souls its now AAA, low end AAA but AAA.
