Forums - Gaming - I've come to the realization that most first party Nintendo games suck.

I think some people aren't reading the OP and missing the point, posting, you shouldn't have chose those games, you must not like the genre, or etc.  Not all Nintendo games suck, exactly as the thread title states.  "Most" first party Nintendo games suck.  Most =/= all.

I also happen to like a wide variety of games, and as I've stated, the games were on a sale, otherwise I would have never purchased them.  $40 MSRP for Zelda and Yoshi, $35 for Tomodachi and Kirby.  That makes each game cost $20 or $17.50, worth purchasing because as Nintendo titles, I can sell the ones I don't like and make more than what I've paid for them back.  So by purchasing the games and trying them out for myself, I really have nothing to lose.

I said Kirby was easy but I liked it.  A lot of people seem to be missing that.  The only ones I said I didn't like were Yoshi's New Island and Tomodachi, but if you read further it's not just those games.  I also mentioned how I've played many other Nintendo titles and failed to enjoy them, pointing out that the really big titles are usually good, but a lot of other titles I've purchased haven't been.

Super Princess Peach, Metroid Prime Hunters, Nintendogs, Animal Crossing, Pokemon Diamond, Pokemon X, and Glory of Heracles are crap.  New Super Mario Bros and New Super Mario Bros Wii are sub par, being much worse than many platformers released last gen.  A long fall from the series that has some of the best 2D platformers.  Wii Sports isn't terrible, but when comparing it to the only other game that's similar that I've played, Sports Champion, the difference in the quality of gameplay and motion detection is like night and day.

Pokemon is a great game for pvp, but you can't deny how stupidly easy and pathetic the single player experience is.  That's part of the game too.  You've got to take the good with the bad and the bad stands out much more than the good.

I dislike the Mario Kart series, but it's got great track design and the controls feel great.  The only problem it has is penalizing those in first place in order to give other players that aren't that good a chance to win once in awhile.  It's not a bad game, it's actually a really good game, but it's not for me.

Smash Bros, Clubhouse Games, Super Mario 3D Land, Advance Wars, and Advance Wars Days of Ruin are all good games that I also like.  I'd assume the Fire Emblem games I own on the DS/3DS, and GC are as well since I liked a past games in the series, just havnen't opened them.  Games like Kirby Super Star are good, but that doesn't count.  It's a port.  Jump Ultimate Stars is good as well, but it was only published by Nintendo, not developed.

So you don't like nintendo games... Ok, I get it, it's a matter of opinion and taste (to be honest, imo only to a certain degree but ok, whateves...)! What I don't get is why you decided to create a thread just to tell others about your opinion. So, what if all users in this site started creating threads about what we like and we don't like?

I think you need to give more reasoning as to why critically acclaimed titles you've mentioned such as Metroid Prime Hunters or Animal Crossing are crap to better support your opinion. And a number of titles you mention aren't even first party Nintendo titles such as Super Princess Peach, Yoshi's New Island, Glory of Heracles, and even the Pokemon games (Gamefreak =/= Nintendo's first party developers).

To be honest, there are tons of threads per month whose content is sorely the opinion and taste of the user who wrote it. And while we're at it, this is a gaming website (kinda), so creating threads that promote discussion about games should be promoted :)

So it got me thinking of other Nintendo first party titles I've got burned on and when thinking about itI've held little to no enjoyment of over 50% of the Nintendo titles I've played in the past decade.

So actually a better track record than most gaming companies. With this sentence you basically admit NIntendo is under the best gaming devs.

Besides, you started your OP with the point, that you bought games you usually wouldn't buy. Well, try that with other companies. I troed it with some, and I got pretty bad r4esults. God of War for instance was incredibly boring. I probably would have liked it if I would still be 13, but as I'm nearing 40 I was only bored. Same with some other series I tried. So 50% isn't that bad, if you include the smaller and niche titles.

You assume that by playing 3 average-bad games? Why don't you try to play the good ones (the vast majority) ?

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

I didn't say games I wouldn't usually buy.  I said "otherwise I wouldn't purchase them," because I wouldn't buy them at the full MSRP.  Nintendo games prices rarely ever drop.  I do buy some games full price but only those I'm really interested in.  I buy a lot of games though, so those that I'm interested in, but not so much, I often wait for those games to drop in price.    Since Nintendo games almost never drop in price, I either wait until a buy two get one free sale, buy one get one free sale, or if I expect the game to be good, I won't mind buying it day one without being on sale.

Also.  "over 50%."

i used to love nintendo but over the wii era they really lost me. nintendo is just too focused on accessibility and profit now. too many of their games lack depth and come off as barely more than a demo. too many games lack polish on the graphics and sound. too many games are just boring after 2 hours

they still have a few amazing franchises but it is getting too few too far between these days. no hate but certainly a lot less respect than i used to have.

Heeere we go. It's time to punch you into the face without respecting your opinions!

I haven't played the games mentioned in the OP, so I'm afraid I can't speak with any confidence on them. I picked up Kirby and Mario Golf in the same sale, so soon I'll know how those titles stack up against Nintendo's best.

As far as Nintendo's first party games go, I'm of the opinion that they're the best in the business. In terms of art direction, music, controls, level design, playability, and replayability, they have no equal. Are there some duds? Sure, but that's understandable considering how many games EAD and the other Nintendo internal studios develop every generation.
