Tomodachi Life should also be bolded, it's the sequel to the DS Japan-only Tomodachi Collection.
Heh, Kresnik caught it first.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Oh really?
Batallion Wars hasn't seen a sequel since '07
Chibi-Robo hasn't seen one since '09 (two sequels, one only in Japan)
Art Style hasn't seen one since '09
Xenoblade Chronicles is NOT a Nintendo-created franchise
Endless Ocean hasn't seen one since '09
Golden Sun saw one in '10 after almost 8 years since the last
Kururin hasn't seen one since '05
Starfy hasn't seen one since '08
Rythem Tengoku hasn't seen one since 2011
Nintendogs hasn't since 2011
Big Brain Academy hasn't since 2007
Brain Age I'll give you
Elite Beat Agents hasn't seen one since 2007
Trace Memory hasn't seen one since '09
Fossil Fighters Frontier I'll give you
Steel Diver is a horrible game with an even worse F2P sequel, and was developed in conjunction with an outside team.
Pushmo I'll give you
Dillon's Rolling Western is terribad, along with its barebone sequel
So, the majority of the games you listed had the last game in the series come out 5 or more years ago (usually more). The few that survive to now are usually very small titles, many download-only, and most have terrible metacritic scores.
But yeah, let's end this.
You're Gonna Carry That Weight.

I just like saying it (or typing it).
One of those personal nostalgia stories, of my fascination with all of the weird, "Japan-only" trophies in Smash Bros Melee. Heririn was the name of the trophy, and the game's name was Kuru Kuru Kuririn.
"Wario's Bucket. Mario and Wario, Japan only."

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.
I'd debate on weather to call those so called games franchises. How many even know are played any of those? I've heard of some of those, but let's face it no one cares about those games.

I agree with you. Some might be considered franchises in the definition sense, but how of those games are really that big. I'll just rephrase the question. How many franchises has nintendo made that are bigger and well known then mario, zelda and metriod? That should be the real question.

It's a nice list, but I think it misses the point. There's no inherent value in the newness of a franchise. There is, however, plenty of value in quality games, and on that front Nintendo has been wildly successful since 2001.
Question to OP: How many are to the quality of AAA game with retail release like we get for Xbox and PS? Also a franchise has more than one game with recognizable name across the industry.
So, Feel Emotions, Experience Adventure/Action, Challenge Game, Solve puzzles and Have fun.
PlayStation is about all-round "New experiences" using new IP's to provide great diversity for everyone.
Xbox is always about Online and Shooting.
Nintendo is always about Fun games and milking IP's.

Still not bad. Several of the Sony games are older as well.
The number is impressive. The games in that list aren't.
I am the Playstation Avenger.

Wow that is impressive, I hope they continue to make new franchises throughout the Wii U and 3DS life cycle.
