And yes, the ads do take away from my gaming experience. I want ALL my games displayed on the home screen for easy access, or at least sone games and apps. It keeps things better organized and gives me more control over a $300 console that I have to pay $60 a year just to access the internet and get ads from Microsoft.

That's the key right there partner. I just skip them and drive on. No bitching or nothing because if the functionality was compromised I wouldn't be skipping them or ignoring them.

Alright, if you feel that ads are cool, fine. I hate them though, since they take away from my gaming experience and make it hard for me to organize my content, so I'll go on complaining, thank you very much.

And it seems most people agree with me as well. Ads are simply annoying.

isnt the point is that everything a product does will not appeal to everyone.  Some people enjoy the ads some people do not.  From this thread alone, most just ignore them unless it offer something they are interested in.  I believe the issue is not that the X1 or 360 have ads, its weather the ads on display is something you care about.  I personally enjoy ads that talk about sales.  If not for those ads I could miss out on some very good deals.  Ads on political, ESPN or things of that sort I have clicked on in the past if they interested me but most times I just ignore them.

It honestly made me laugh a ton when I borrowed my friend's 360 and saw all of the ads. I really can't figure out how people justify owning that...

Yeah I really dislike them. Especially seeing as how you are paying £360-400+ for the console as well as £40 a year for a Gold membership.

I don't know why you even bother? I pinned my games to the dashboard, don't see any problem with it. Also I think it's nice if I get a hint to discounted games... The only annoying thing is if you move over a tile with a movie ad as it will automatically play audio of the stream which I don't like.

Principle. Like highwayuni said above, you've paid a lot for this device and their service already and you are still getting advertised to. Usually if you don't pay for something you expect to get advertised to, if you pay for it (one off or subscription) you don't. Even you listed a reason why it's intrusive.

This, alongside their cavalier approach to my personal information, is one of the key reasons I'm not getting a Microsoft console this gen.

There's no exclusives that I particularly care for, and I'm not willing to pay hundreds of £ in order to have my personal information sold on to advertisers and intelligence agencies.

I don't trust Microsoft anymore.

Movie ads of course not. But to reach this tile you have to go there, it is the most distant tile from where you start.
