I'm not confident that you really speak for all Xbox fans.
Regardless, the ironic thing here, at least for me, is that I find the Xbox One to be far more appealing than the 360. It's going to have more exclusives, with more variety, rather than just a handful of big titles. It's going to have actual value for its subscription plan. It has vastly improved management and focus.
Last gen, I didn't like the vibe I got from Xbox. It seemed to me that they just regarded gamers as stepping stones to the living room. I remember one of the guys in charge of the original Xbox talking about how there were two factions involved at Microsoft: those who wanted a gaming console first and those who wanted it to be a portal device. I felt like that latter group was in control, at least during the Kinect period and the Xbox One creation period.
So, yeah, if the Xbox One keeps improving, it's not something that will make me unhappy, it's something that will make me interested.
Why is this happening, though? Because the Xbox One isn't in first place. Gamers, including 360 owners, telling Microsoft that they wouldn't be taken for granted is a crucial moment in Xbox history. Be glad that the Xbox One is in second because, had it come out of the gates in first place, it would have been horrible for Xbox gamers and for the industry in general.
