Forums - Nintendo - Why is Earthbound good ?

As a non-native english speaker, i got desinteressed on the game pretty quickly. There are some weird menus and action, and the status the battle use words that i really never heard of or didn't made sense all togheter.

WTH "it became tame" is supposed to mean?

But if you are a english or japanese native speaker, maybe you can enjoy.

But remenber, its discounted rigth now, so maybe you should get more expensive games

"Hardware design isn’t about making the most powerful thing you can.
Today most hardware design is left to other companies, but when you make hardware without taking into account the needs of the eventual software developers, you end up with bloated hardware full of pointless excess. From the outset one must consider design from both a hardware and software perspective."

It's good, but overrated. Think of it a quirky Dragon Quest game, with many of the same flaws as the series it's parodying/aspiring to. The beginning, by which I mean the first four hours, are pretty slow and somewhat grindy, and it takes a long while until you get your second permanent member. On the other hand, once the game gets going it has a lot of goofy humor, and it skewers JRPG tropes pretty often.

Zelda II is an amazing game and only n00bs think otherwise. The difficulty is also often overstated: if you played NES games, it was on the modest end of the challenge spectrum. Which is to say it's hard for modern gamers, but a far cry from unbeatable. I'd put it with the old Megaman games, and below classic Ninja Gaiden. It does an excellent job of never being cheap, but you'll always be on your toes. Highly recommended, but you should spend your CN award elsewhere, since Zelda II costs only $5 and I believe is occassionally purchasable with coins anyway.

You can't really get lost in EarthBound. It's a sizable game, but the world layout isn't very intricate or confusing (only frustrating part is in Onett when you're wandering around and all the skate punks are stronger than you...).

It's ultimately worth the trip. Just read up a bit on how the battle mechanics all work. So much i didn't know about how to fight in that game until i looked up the easy way to beat Giygas.

Wait you didn't know how to fight until you looked up how to beat Giygas. So you looked at a walkthrough to fight the final boss to help you with everythig before it :P

I knew a lot of the basics, like how to take advantage of the rolling HP meter and how best to utilize each of the characters, mostly what the support moves did, like Brain Shock, were what remained unknown to me through the course of the game.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Zelda II is okay. Except remember this: When you get EXP points. You litterly have to touch it to count. If you don't, you get nothing. Main factor why I hate the game. I've died for days in the game. All because I wasn't leveling up. Because I thought like any other game after Zelda II came out. You just gain the exp normally.

Wut? I think you're confusing Zelda II with another game... Never heard of this, all I know is that you lose your current exp if you get a game over.

Nope. Fight any enemey in Zelda and don't hit the xp number with your body or sword. You don't get it. And won't level up.

Earthbound is the only worthwhile game on your list. It has a fantastically unique setting with some interesting characters and plot twists, one of the best soundtracks of its era and some really great art direction. It's a pretty standard RPG in most ways as far as gameplay goes but there are a few odd caveats. Overall, it is one of my favorite games and possibly my all time favorite Nintendo game.

Earthbound is great, just a classic RPG with a pretty nice story.

Zelda II is also great with save states (Wii U and 3DS versions both support it). Use them as much as you can to avoid frustration. Also, Miiverse might help if you get stuck.

You get to fight piles of puke and hippies. That should explain it well.

nice

I'm not smart enough to state it properly but the sheer sense of "the journey" in Earthbound is fantastic. You start and you're just a kid with a couple friends, you leave home, you have to call yer Mom 'n Dad, you get home sick and you encounter some insane stuff. It's memorable and unlike anything you'll ever experience.

if you hate RPG's though it might not be for you

run away!

Thanks for all the replies. I purchased it and played it for an hour. The writing is well done, especially with random charcters. Reminds me of Pokemon a bit. The hameplay is boring, but i only have 1 chaacter so i hope it will get better.

The game does get more interesting when you find the rest of the gag. Also best function is when the game detects you can defeat a fight in one attack. It doesn't engage the fight. You get a quick won screen. Best invention ever. More games need this.
