Yes, kill off the most successful Sony franchise and the best selling racing sim series. That makes perfect sense. /s
Of the 3 racing titles you mentioned, only one of them is a direct competitor to GT, and that's Project Cars. The other two titles are arcade titles. The main Forza series and now Project Cars are the only two direct competitors GT has on console. Assetto Corsa and a few older PC sims are the only others as a whole.
Polyphony doesn't have to do a whole lot to make GT competitive again. The physics/driving model is very good and that's the hardest thing to get right. My biggest issue with GT is the sound, and I am confident that they will improve in this area.
Polyphony also needs to make sure that they release a finished and polished title at release this time, like they have been known to do in the past. GT5 was a disaster at launch, but it became a solid title after v2.0.
As far as standard cars, as long as PD doesn't force standard cars on us, then what's the problem? Don't like them, don't buy them. Kaz said he plans on keeping standard cars for the car lovers that have emotional ties to these old classics. More cars is better than less cars. Even if you remove all of the standard cars, it has more premium cars than most racers.
