Awesome! I'm just glad there is Captain Falcon. I wish there was Ness and Jigglypuff though.

is it weird that I've literally NEVER heard of Lucina or Robin? Cool that CF is back but that was pretty much guaranteed, I mean he's a veteran from the very beginning N64 days

And why should Lucina and Chrom, two characters from a much smaller franchise, be treated as more important?

Because they're nowhere near as lame, and their game didn't suck donkey balls.

Irrelevant. I prefer these characters but four games from FE is too many

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Only if you think the series is primarily a balanced representation of Nintendo IPs (and apparently non-Nintendo IPs too now). If it was, then a third of the roster would be Pokemon, a third would be Mario characters, F-ZERO, Pikmin, Kid Icarus, Earthbound, and Punch-Out!! would be reduced to a single trophy or assist only, Ice Climbers would be a sticker only, Starfox and Metroid would have only one character and stage each, and Zelda would have three characters tops. The Animal Crossing series would have a lot more involvement, and the Wii ___ series would be much much much better represented. Fire Emblem would probably have never had any characters ever, and would thus never have been released in the West. And Zelda would have its representation here trimmed, since it already has four characters, which is as many as the massively-successful Pokemon series, and Ganon may still end up returning too...

Since the series is actually a fighting-party hybrid game that also celebrates Nintendo, none of the above is true. There's no formula for how much or how little a series gets represented, and the Fire Emblem series offers plenty of fighters to fill out a roster. You can argue you think X should have more or less representation, but you can't pretend there's some sort of formula that isn't being faithfully followed. I'd prefer to have a bit less FE myself, specifically to exclude Lucina unless she's quite different from Marth, but then I'd prefer to drop Toon Link as well. Wha'chagonnado?

Also, it's hardly irrelevant: Girahim being lame has a direct impact on his likely exclusion. Note that we're getting fan-favorite Lucina, and not fan-snoozer Chrom. No one likes the former, lots of folks like the latter.

Seriously, fuck Girahim and the game he rode in on.

I agree, Robin looks fun to play with, but people won't know who the hell he is, and most SSB customers probably won't care about the FE characters.

I disagree. When j first bought Brawl on Wii I didnt know most of the characters and ended up liking Ike and Pit the most even though i have no idea who they were. And after Kid icarus uprising was revelead i got excited for it more than lets say the next Donkey kong or Mario game (characters i knew).

Don't be so aggressive, tbone...

EDIT: oh well, moderators noticed it...

I didn't even know Robin because I renamed and customized the main character in FE: Awakening.
But (s)he seems interesting.

Marth= Poster Boy. There will always be at least 2 FE reps. You are such a Hater, LoZ Fanboy at its finest lmao :)

"If Its not Zelda or Metroid I dont Care!" lol

But he isnt wrong. Fire Emblem just isnt that big of a franchise, so why give it 4 characters in a game?

Fans would want other more iconic character back like ice climbers or something.

I dont have anything against Fire Emblem,  but 4 characters are just too much.

It's not just a matter of how much each franchise is represented, but it's also about what makes sense for each franchise.

Take Metroid for instance.  Sure it's a pretty big franchise, but it is not a franchise with a lot of characters.  The franchise (at least the good entries) is about isolation and slow solitary exploration.  Next to no dialogue and very indirect storytelling.  So, the franchise may be a big one, but representation doesn't make sense.

Fire Emblem on the other hand has tons of memorable characters with well defined traits and personalities.  There are far more possible representatives from this franchise, so I'm fine with more reps from that game.  My only complaint would be the focus on Fire Emblem Awakening.  I'd have rather had them take Robin from awakening and have added Erika from sacred stones or something.

And lol at Ice Climbers being iconic.

Thankfully Ghirahim is not lame and his games is good, and of course much more important than those unknown FE characters.
