So, do you feel you're watching life from a seat when people have conversations around you? Just a silly comment for something that simply can enhance storytelling and give characters more depth and personality.

If I am not interacting with the people having the conversation, I am not immersed in their conversation, no. Are you? When I am interacting and making decisions I do feel immersed in the conversation. When Samus is telling me she feels upset because of this and that and I do not feel upset, I do not feel like I am a part of that situation. (And you're saying I'm the one with the silly comment.)

I have no interaction with a game during a cut scene and therefore feel less immersed.

What I'm saying is let me have the reaction. Give me options for things I can tell people. Both of these things immerse me more in a game.

But you're no more immersed reading text. It's just another method of delivery of dialogue. Voice acting just allows you to add emotion. Voice acting =/= cutscenes. You can have zero voice acting and have a ton of cutscenes.

And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

If the text allows me to either come to my own conclusions, or gives me options to interact then I would feel more immersed that way yes. But all of this is really besides the point, you said "Voice acting is generally regarded as the most immersive thing a game can do for players." This is completely and utterly  wrong. The greatest thing a game can do is let YOU be the character through gameplay and storyline choices.

What I bolded to what you just wrote is also true. The way the dialogue is delivered is really unimportant to immersion.

Cutscenes without voice acting feels super archaic now. If you are to make a game without voice acting then don't make cutscenes at all.

Considering that voice actors are generally hand picked to play the role of characters, that's exactly how they're supposed to sound like. Only time this doesn't happen is for localizations, which leads to incredibly wild degrees of quality. That doesn't make voice acting an inherently bad thing.

This is literally the first I've ever heard someone argue that voice acting is somehow bad.

I've never played a single game with voice acting that didn't have that one character or line that completely ruined the immersion.

It's a good thing in some cases, but this is not one of them. We don't need Zelda: Other Z.

Boutros understands.
