Forums - Gaming - Putting the PC cost argument to rest

Well, it's not THAT easy to build a PC from ground up. Little mistakes like not connecting the CPU fan can come costly.

But nobody is forced to build a PC on his own, there are many services (online or local) who will build your chosen components together for you for a small fee.

True, but learning how to build a PC is fun, and as long as you buy modular components most of it is a breeze.

That being said, you are right, there are tons of services that will do it for you for a small fee. I recommended CyberpowerPC to a friend, since their sales are pretty good.

Xbox One - PS4 - Wii U - PC

Even a $1200 pc is mediocre by today standards. Hell a gtx 780 ti graphics card alone is $700.

Not really. A R9 280X is just $299, and it's easily one of the best cards available in the market. A lot of people assume if you don't have the very best your PC sucks, which isn't true. A 280X or 770 will max out any game for years to come.

No one needs a $700 gtx 780 unless they're playing on multiple displays or a 4k display.

If one sticks to 1920x1080 resolution, a $300 VGA card is more than ample for any existing game for providing the graphical quality and frame rate/performance that people tend to choose PC as a gaming platform.

Of course, the ability to scale resolution up for multiple displays or higher than 1920x1080 is one of the biggest merits of PC gaming.

On the other end of the argument, using low end or dated graphic cards as an exercise in building a cheap gaming PC (or "proving" how cheap PC gaming is/can be) doesn't provide the same experience with the types of games used to showcase top end visuals.

That's true, unless you buy a Wii U which is $300 and free online.

The thing is Nintendo games NEVER drop in price, so can't buy them on the cheap later on. Even used. That really pisses me off, seeing how all other games drop to acceptable levels and only N games remain expensive, sometimes even becoming more expensive than at launch (Xenoblade). Ridiculous.

Nintendo has no control over Xenoblade copies that are out there. Retailers found some and started selling them at rediculously high prices. Wal-mart is pretty bad for this. They have Other M for 80 dollars at the store in my city. Also, Wonderful 101 recieved a price drop, as did a lot of the launch titles.

Sure it does. They can release more copies - it's their game for crying out loud! W101 is still way too expensive for what it's worth. At least 2 times too expensive.

Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!

My Vita to-buy list: The Walking Dead, Persona 4 Golden, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, TearAway, Ys: Memories of Celceta, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, History: Legends of War, FIFA 13, Final Fantasy HD X, X-2, Worms Revolution Extreme, The Amazing Spiderman, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate - too many no-gaemz :/

My consoles: PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim 320 GB, PSV 32 GB, Wii, DSi.

up until the wii i think that was right.
but with the wiiu i have seen 1st party games drop in price ... hell nintendo is even giving away games for free if you buy mario kart.

you know something is not seeling well enough if games which never ever would get a pricecut in older gens to giving away free games :(

They are still well above the level of Sony/MS games, which is often a dealbreaker for me. I'm not gonna pay 45-60 Euro for a Pikmin, Wonderful 101 or some other game that isn't an obvious hit and comes from a franchise that is unknowned for me. I'd pay some 15-20 Euro for it, but not that much. I'm no, digital versions on the absurd e-shop aren't the answer. Even free games on it have next to no value for me and are no incentive due to them being tied to the console and not my account.

Yeah, €30 € was my upper limit for Pikmin 3... but I had luck and got it for €15 (€20 with shipping) as Amazon Warehouse deal:

Lucky you. How much do you it's worth?

lowest I saw pikmin was ~30 and wonderful ~20.
both are 30bucks now on amazon in my country.

if it was the wii or earlier gens it would be still 50 or even more.

but compared to pc prices its way more expensive. but i would say on the same level as i would expect from a sony/ms game on sale.
