Is this a wiiU thread? Feels like a wiiU thread.

There are two metrics to use for deciphering the best. You are either looking at which has the best hardware, in which case tech specs and game performance wouldn't lie and in this case having the best hardware doesn't mean you are the best selling. The other way is to just look at sales.

Anything in between is purely opinion and subjective and has no business being in any argument or discussion. Its flat out stupid getting into an argument with anyone over what kinda games they play or why. I know a guy who believes the dynasty warrior series are the best in all gaming. He literally wouldn't play anything else. If you want to torture me make me play any game in that series for like 5 mins....

Why do you automatically assume it's a Wii U thread? It's just a general "I'm sick of there always having to be a best game based on sales alone" thread.

I bet the Wii U would sell more than 15M LTD by the end of 2015. He bet it would sell less. I lost.

The only truth is time. Which game have you spent the most time on? That is YOUR best game.

Nope.. not at all. Quality > quantity. I can spend hundreds of hour in a game and like it less than a game i played for 10-20 hours.

In my argument I assumed that if one enjoys something, one does it for a longer period. I exclude mazochism. My apologies if I didnt make this clear.

Nothing to do with mazochism. It can simply have more replayability of more content to wade through. Doesn't mean i enjoy it more than a game I played less of. I played +500 hours of L4D1 and i enjoyed several 5 hour indies more than that game. It's like the difference between going out to the bar casually with friends every weekend and going to a foreign country having a really fantastic one-time holiday. I know which one i remember and which one i forget..

Whatever scale you want to believe in, that's what you should use. Just tell us your favorite!

I am not arguing for any game or console. I am arguing for the concept of best vs. popular.

Philosophically speaking the beat selling console is not the best. It is the most popular. Popularity does not equal quality. There are countless examples of pop culture that I will not reiterate.

Hence concepts such as best console, most sold, top-10 etc are invalid. Popularity is subjective. There is no objectivity. Quality is objective but you ought to have an objective metric.

So who is objective enough and what are the metrics? None....

Hence why dont you say instead of best...I enjoy the most. That is a valid argument. Noone can argue with YOUR sense of fun.

And in this context the only objective metric of fun is time spent on something. If you dont enjoy you dont play. If you enjoy you do.

So come on fanboys of all denominations. Look deep inside yourselves for the truth of gaming. The only truth is time. Which game have you spent the most time on? That is YOUR best game.

This is why we can only assess the success of a console by its sales. Philosophy, is irrelevant to the matter.

Everything else is just opinion. Where do you think this is? This is VGChartz, the purpose of this site is to track video game sales.

To be precise you meant commercial success only, did you not? There are many time of successes.

Indeed these are objective metrics applying to consoles (power and sales) and games (sales). However you should then talk about most powerful or most popular but not THE BEST. There is no objective metric of THE BEST as there is no definition of THE BEST. If you do not know something how can you actually measure it and then rank it?

People claim a system is better than the other to try to justify their purchase and to make themselves feel better. That's just how it is with fanboy types. They'll use sales and stuff like ''well my console sold this many units so that makes it king'' or something, its to try to show superiority over someone else for a piece of plastic. It's rather silly

While people fight over numbers and quantity sold, at least myself and many others will not fly a console flag or play console loyalty and enjoy what all three companies have to offer, regardless of sales numbers or quantity lol

this is in response to the original quote

Yes. And I agree their are many types of successes. However, the only success that we aren't relative are those proven by fact. I.E sales numbers, official profitability statements, the works.

So you pretty much just made a pretentious thread to ask what game we have played the most?
