The closure of a studio is never something to celebrate, but at least the Neversoft team went out in a (quite literal) blaze of glory.

The Tony Hawk and Guitar Hero developer was closed today and the team is being merged with Infinity Ward, as announced back in May.

The new mega-studio will presumably be dedicated to Call of Duty, which is being handled by Sledgehammer Games this year while Infinity Ward bulks up. With Treyarch still tied to the franchise, Activision is now operating a three-year development cycle for the franchise.

I had some great fun with the earlier Tony Hawk games and Guitar Heroes, but the milking ruined their franchises.

Will be missed though.

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

Another sacrificial offering to the dark gods of COD. They never really recaptured the TH hype from the ps1 days so I can't say it's the biggest loss.
