Will Retro be forever confined in only remastering the classic Nintendo franchises?

Probably. I mean this isn't even a classic franchise by any stretch of the imagination etiher.

I'm not just talking about this specific game, but since you bright it up, they've basically went and revived "Classic" main series, there's now a rumor of remaking a spin-off series that is a wannabe Mario Kart.

Great job, Nintendo for wasting resources.

I agree with you but prepare yourself in 3....2...1....

Why are so many people not liking this?

Because some of us want to see Retro make a game with some ambition, and one that will actually help the Wii U.

How does Diddy Kong Racing 2 not help it whereas Metroid Prime 4 does?

Estelle and Adol... best characters ever! XD

Because Wii U already has MK8, but it does not have a dark, exclusive sci-fi action-adventure. DKR's niche is already filled, Metroid's is not.

Thinking about this, if this is true then that probably kills any chance of Kirby Air Ride 2 coming out this Gen.

Kirby Air Ride 2 would be very unlikely to happen regardless of whether or not DKR2 is actually real...

New Star Fox maybe? I personally want a new Metroid altogether, not a Metroid Prime 4. Since we have some new IPs already, if I had to choose anything for Retro to work on, it would likely be F-Zero (Oh look another racing game) or Metroid (Been 4 years Nintendo!)

I really hope the rumor is true that the game will be about minor Nintendo stars racing it out. I would to play as Dillon.

nice

I don't get how having two cart racers is too much when certain other genres are reaching critical mass on other systems.

FPS' run rampant on the heels of CoD on other systems.  Nintendo has "the CoD of racing" already cornered off in Mario Kart.  Nintendo releasing another racing game is like Activision reviving an old FPS that plays like CoD with some gimmicks here and there.  What's the point?

The COD of racing? One game a console is a "COD" of whichever genre?

Saying Diddy Kong Racing is just MK with "gimmicks" (god I hate that word) also makes no sense to me, since I played both it and MK64 and that just sounds completely untrue.

CoD in the sense of sales and popularity.

You'd be surpirsed how similar DKR would be to MK now, with the gliders and driving underwater.

Why do you hate the word gimmick?

Gimmick is used to downplay or dismiss innovation, changes or formulas people dislike. Kinect, Gamepad, and half the modern Zeldas the nostalgic Zelda fans hate are all called "gimmicks" or "filled with gimmicks."

Nintendo has to think about survival at this point. They can't just make whatever they want any more, if they want to stay in the home console market they need to focus on making games that move hardware.

DKR2 will not move a significant amount of hardware, just like Tropical Freeze didn't, because they both appeal to an audience that Nintendo already has on lockdown. They need to concentrate on capturing new gamers, or over time their fanbase will wither away.

Metroid sales are usually lower than DK's.

You're correct in the fact that the word gimmick is scrutinized and has negative connotations in most contexts.  It's a lot like the word linear in that sense.  However, like liear, there's nothing wrong with gimmicks.  Mario Kart has gimmicks in every game in the series after 64 and every one of those gimmicks are fantastic.

There's nothing wrong with the word itself, it's how it's been dragged through the mud just like the word linear, an effect of gamers clamoring for everything to be open world.

"You should be banned. Youre clearly flaming the president and even his brother who you know nothing about. Dont be such a partisan hack"

Well...yeah. Exactly. That's what I meant.

Reminds me of "rehash"

That word is straight up used completely incorrectly 90% of the time
