Forums - Gaming - How microsoft plan to stealthily bring back Always Online

Yeah, nobody gets what I'm saying. We are talking about Cloud here, not consoles. Cloud requires internet, regardless of what console it's on. The OP is talking about Cloud, then spins it into M$ DRM. I'll leave it at that.

M$ is still evil, regardless. I'm sorry if I offended any of you. I take back anything I said. Please don't kick me out of the Sony fan club.

I hope they do it soon. That way, they can gouge the M$ "fans" for all they're worth and have the majority of the market go PS4. :)

The blind faithful are very entertaining. Microsoft is extremely thankful for your blind loyalty and you will all be rewarded with a brick that doesn't play any games in 5 years.

I think what the OP is saying is that he theorizes that MS will put Cloud "improvements" into every game, which will then translate into all ms games requiring Cloud, which translates into DRM.

You didn't offend anyone, just nobody understood what you meant, which I'm guessing was just a joke about Cloud or semantics. I dunno. Maybe you're mistaken, maybe we are. All I know is that Sony talks about PSNow as if it were Netflix, and MS is talking about Cloud as if it were Origin (which is a very bad thing).

You should be laughing at the OP. The Cloud and its resources need to have internet access to work. M$es Cloud processing and Sony's Cloud both need internet and DRM to work. Hence why PS Now comes into the subject. If I want to use PS Now Cloud, I need to be connected through DRM. If I want to play an Xbone game with Cloud support, I need to be connected through DRM to work.

Still missing the point that ps now is optional. MS plans for everything to be drm mandatory.

lol that is much misconception and biased opinion for a so small sentence.

You know cloud feature != drm. you will still be able to buy sell used games.
Cloud feature does not mean that the game will be online only (look at forza 5).
And stop acting like you know everything that Microsoft as planned. The only result you'll get is your opinion being discredited

1) Because in the future if you need to play any game you will need to be online even if your playing alone 2)just for the cloud computing is just an excuse. Always online is the same as always drm. 3)To ply with parity with the ps4 you will need the cloud there for you will need xbox live.

I like how you mention forza like an old game has any relevance in a conversation about the fuure of gaming. 4)Why didnt you mentioned titanfall then. 5)With all their brag about cloud and the AI and the graphics where crap.

6)And you know why i pretend like I know? Because everybody knows, at least anybone who saw last years E3 and the x1 reveal where they said it to everybody that it was exactly their plan. Even if they whent 180 on all thouse policies they still have claimed that thouse ideas are not dead. 7)Like it was said before not by me, it will start with cloud power so it has the same power as the ps4 and then you will not be able to play any game offline so the only choise in playing will be online or get a ps4 and acording to the reaction from last year guess wich will be the popular option.

1) Your right, but that's an inneviteble future for Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo. My guess is that Sony and Microsoft next gen system will maybe not even have disc drive.

2) But then again, cloud feature may not be required for the game, so not every game with cloud feature will require online.

3)  If you think that cloud compute is there to make every Xbox One more powerfull you're looking at it the wrong way. It is there to add new features and possibility to games.

4) Because Titanfall is a multiplayer only title and that has nothing to do with the cloud feature.

5) you're right Ai <> graphics. And no just because graphics are not awesome or better than anything else does not mean they're crap.

6)Last year e3 was about DRM and that is in no way related to cloud feature. Microsoft never said that they wanted to bring back DRM on the Xbox One.

7) look at number 3. Cloud processing to enhance graphics is only a possibility among tons of other and this one does not even interest me.

But even if in a game required online for single player. because devs wanted to bring innovation, feature, boost in graphics, cool stuff that need cloud processing. why would I not be able to benefit from it? Because someone somewhere want to play the game offline. Activation sure did not bother them when they made Diablo 3 online only why would Microsoft or any other company do for certain specific games. You tring to say Microsoft should not innovate because not everyone in the world would want/be able to use those innovation? Sorry but no one company ever acted this way.

This is what I see happening. I see Sony and MS going this route, failing and then console gaming just dying out. Console gamers certainly aren't going to just jump on board and change like so many people think. Instead, it's just going to kill it.

Of course they will start to launch PS4 games on PS Now in the coming years.

Damn. Why did i buy a PS4? If i knew I could just insert ps4 discs on my ps3 and play them...

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2014-sony-creates-custom-ps3-for-playstation-now

edicated servers house eight PS3s, built from the ground up for cloud gameplay.

If Sony ever wants to add ps4 games to PS now they'll have to completely revamp their entire PS now infrastructure. Which could happen...after the PS4 generation is over.

And you don´t know if that is the first stage that they are working on. They might aswell have a prototype for a larger solution, that encompass PS4 aswell. It is only logical that this will continue to involve PS4 aswell, it might be a few years but it is happening. Sony make their profit of software, and having everything online gives them a wider range of hardware that can play games and bigger control in the form of DRM. Just the fact that they are first out of the gate big three should be a giveaway.

And don´t get me wrong. I think they are on the right path, and wish MS would implement something similar next year.

Except they're not. PS Now isn't DRM. Or, if you want to put it differently, it doesn't work like DRM.
