but if thats not what the consumers are saying (and lets say you are right for arguments sake, sales wise) how can it be underrated?

You have to see it in the context of a stigmatized gaming community forums such as vgchartz to fully understand where I'm coming from ...

What these gamers say on forums =/= General reception in reality

If almost all of the opinions were consistent with market responses then there would be no such thing "overrated" or "underrated" in the first place.

thats fair, but IMHO the amount of forums are so small compared to the bigger world, its almost insignificant, but everybody will always have different opinions anyway

The Wii easily, it gets a lot of hate from people because it was popular among casuals and people considered it some casual console full of shovelware when its games library is pretty  good

Also I don't understand the people who vote for the Gamecube when it's pretty beloved in all forums

So the GC isnt underrated because of forums but Wii is is underrated becasue of forums? huh?

Aren't we talking about underrated among "core gamers" (i.e people who post in forums)? or are we talking about mainstream public generally speaking? If it's the latter then the Gamecube isn't underrated neither because most probably people don't even remember it XD, if we're talking about how the Gamecube was received among mainstream back when it released and some years later, then we can say it's underrated.

i reallt thought we were just talking general. but forums then yeah

If it's any Nintendo console that's underrated it's the WII ... I don't understand the hate for a good console.

NES got the credits it deserved, SNES was a little overrated, N64 and GC were trash because they didn't come close to delivering a worthwhile experience.

I almost agreed with an entire post of yours! But yeah, the Wii has plenty of worthy games for serious gamers that never require you to wiggle. I hate it when people act like every game makes you shake, rattle and roll.

Most of them do, and thats what the problem was.

It's not a problem if you read reviews beforehand so you know what you're getting into, and only play what sounds relevant to your interests. How is that any different than any game on every console ever?

Most of the good third party games made for the hardcore gamer crowd let you forego motion controls entirely, and many even gave you the option to play with a Classic Controller. There are a few that required motion input, like Okami, Zak & Wiki, and Red Steel 2, but if you have a problem with motion controls in games like those, that's a "you" problem, and I question why you ever bothered to own a Wii at all. Okami was truly enhanced by motion controls and turned combat from a button masher into a timing and rhythmic brawler, and painting actions more seamless and natural. If you take the motion controls out of Red Steel 2, you have no game.

There was a lot of crap that was born from motion controls, but anyone who thinks it never enhanced any games is only kidding themselves.

By the way, when I say "you," I don't mean at oniyide, I mean "you" in general.

only core gamers are gonna read reviews. We all know that and even them only some of them do. Hell if reviews were that important Just Dance would have died years ago.

I dont have a problem with those games. Red Steel 2 is one of my fav games on the system. I bought the Wii for those games. But my problem is there werent ENOUGH of those games. There were way too many crap like Bachelor or generic game collection #443 than there were things like Red Steel 2.

And IMHO it didnt enchance ENOUGH games. Besides FPS i cant really think of a genre that truly beneffited from the motion controls. IMHO i think alot of gamers felt like this hence why they are not enamored by the Wii. But thats just one issue.

GameCube and Wii were both great.

I´m pretty sure the Wii will get the recognition over the next couple of years it derserves (the more same-y and tired AAA-games get on the PS4 and XBone).

So...the Wii.

I've read three times what you wrote, and I still don't understand your final sentence.

The Wii is the most underrated Nintendo console right now, but will get the recognition it deserves in the future.

(In hardcore internet-gaming circles, not necessarily the mainstream)

it wasnt that bad in the intial stages. Its only gotten worse over the years and IMHO it will continue to do so

N64.

It was able to produce graphics so much more advanced than anything on PS1 and Saturn and it pioneered 3D gameplay. It had a great selection of exclusive software. Nintendo debuted a lot of their IPs, and developed/published games in a wide range of genres that appealed to not only the Nintendo fan; like extreme sports, realistic sport games and FPS. It was the only console at the time that did FPS right, with GoldenEye, Perfect Dark and the Turok franchise. Rareware helped Nintendo out during the infamous game droughts, and they were possibly the greatest developers in the world at the time. Local multiplayer was never better.
The games released towards the end of its lifespan looked incredible, sometimes with the help of the Expansion Pak. I remember Jet Force Gemini being one of the last games I played, while Oni (made by Bungie) was one of the first PS2 games I played - and JFG looked a lot better (I'm not saying that the N64 was comparable to the PS2).

It had a lot of obvious drawbacks though, like expensive games, few releases and few good RPGs, 2D platformers, driving sims and beat 'em ups. I still remember it far more fondly that the GameCube (and I had a cool black one).

We've never needed a "like" button more. I think that's a perfect summary of why the N64 is such a great system. Well said.

I might have to go with Wii, though. The amount of venom directed at it, and at Nintendo for its success, is unreasonable.

The Wii, by far.

The Gamecube is the most overrated.

GameCube is SUPER-overrated on this site. It was easily the most pointless Nintendo console with the least innovation, but there are plenty of people here who somehow think it was the best one.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Have you ever owned one? Im not saying its the best Nintendo console, but it was pretty cool and had some amazing games.

A lot of today's forum-going Nintendo gamers grew up with it, and look back on it with nostalgia.

Something can be overrated but still good.

Gamecube was a good console with some amazing games, but of all Nintendo's home consoles, it had the lowest number of gems, in my opinion anyway.
