Assassin's Creed
Call of Duty
*insert milked franchise here*

It's funny I would have said Assassin's Creed but 4 was a spectacular game.

No Franchise should ever have to end. There will always be fans of the games that crave for more. Those who stop to enjoy a game can just stop playing it.

It's a stupid proposition and a slap in the face of any fan of a series.

As long as a game remains relevant, stays true to what it is and delivers an enjoyable experince, there's no reason for a franchise to stop.  Call of Duty, Kirby, and Street Fighter to name a few all do these things well and have remained popular.

Just because a frachise has lost it's way - Final Fantasy, Resident Evil - doesn't mean the franchise needs to stop.  It means developers need to be more creative and passionate about what they're creating and focus on what made those franchises hosehold names.

The game doesn't have to stay true to anything. As we've seen countless times, it's completely subjective what is and what is not true to a franchise. I for one think FF stayed very true to its roots and those pseudo fans don't know what they are talking about.

Even if the majority thinks the game isn't worth it anymore, there is no reason to call for it to be stopped. It's practically declaring that the creators shouldn't have freedom anymore.

As you said, creators need their creative freedom. They can't have that if "fans" are claiming that a game isn't what it should be. That's the way we got to this AAA trot where developers create based on what they think players want instead of what they want.

There are countless of games out there. If a player thinks his franchise isn't fun anymore he can just stop playing it, but what about those people who still liked it and maybe even embraced the changes? A changed game isn't hurting anyone, a stopped, or even worse, a franchise that let's their creators no freedom anymore is hurting a lot of people.

Final Fantasy was turn based, non linear, strategic, and gave the player full control of their party.  13 did none of those things, things that made Final Fantasy... Final Fantasy.  You're the first person I've heard say it stayed true to its roots - SE could have called the game "Bravely Default" and no one would have questioned if it was Final Fantasy.

We agree on creative freedom.  However, the idea behind creative freedom and giving the fans what they desire isn't as black and white as we may think.  It's somewhere in the middle, where you don't always want to completely overhaul a franchise but you also don't remain stagnant.  Metriod Prime is a great example of this, with the Prime series basically just changing the perspective from side scrolling to first person; the series didn't really change.

I agree that it isn't hurting anyone but you could argue anything done to any game doesn't hurt anyone.  You talked about slaps in the face, taking a beloved franchise and altering it to the point of it being unrecognizable is as big of a slap in the face to the fans as you can get.

"You should be banned. Youre clearly flaming the president and even his brother who you know nothing about. Dont be such a partisan hack"

Star Fox should have ended after 64. Hopefully Nintendo can change my mind about this.

I feel like the Mother series found an appropriate time to end.

every game that gets more than 2 installments on a single platform. Also all games that get more than 3 instllaments in 6 years no matter the platform. <------------------

2.5D castlevania =/= 3D castlevania. Both castlevania series are fine since there is just 2 3D games and 1 2.5D game.

NSMB =/= Mario Galaxy  but there is more than 3 NSMB games within 6 years (NSMB started 2006 NSMB U was 2012)   Mario Galaxy is fine because there is just 2 games but NSMB gets disqualified xD because 4 installments in 6 years!

on 4 different consoles.

look at bold.   There is still fatigue and the time could have been used to do something better instead.

Final Fantasy and Angry Birds

Halo should have stopped at 3,
Resistance should have stopped at 2,
Mario should have stopped at mario 64
Uncharted should have stopped at 3
Bioshock should have stopped at 2,
Resident evil should have stopped at 3
Final fantasy should have stopped at 10
Gears of war should have stopped at 2
Gran turismo should have stopped at 4 (GT5 and GT6 seem to suggest it half did)
Ridge racer should have stopped at RRT4
Ace combat should have stopped at 6
Battlefield should have stopped at 3
Call of duty should have stopped at 2
Fallout should stop at 4
Elder scrolls should stop at Skyrim

You get the picture.

resistance 3 had the best campaign in the series.

And about half of your list is/was way too big to stop at that point.

This list looks like something with no thought put in it.

1. Uncharted should have stopped at 3

2. Final fantasy should have stopped at 10

4. Fallout should stop at 4
5. Elder scrolls should stop at Skyrim

  1. Technically you can't say that unless uncharted 4 turns out to be worse than Uncharted 3. What if it turns out to be the best uncharted ever.
  2. This doesn't apply to FF games since each one is fundamentally different. Every game is basically its own game and independent of all before it, with exception to sharing the names of items or spells or certain characters.
  3. Doesn't apply to games like this either. Its a racing simulator, throw in cars and new tracks and you will always have a new game. Its like saying the should stop making football games cause well, they are all the same.
  4. Again doesn't apply, the only thing the fallout games have in common are their post-apolytic settings.
  5. Doesn't apply either, every game is its own story which just happens on a different continent of the same world. If they were to call each game in the series a different name (which technically they do) and do away with "the elder scrolls" monicker every single iteration of the franchise could have stood on its own. Unless what you are saying is that they should do away with "The elder scrolls Name". Hell, look at Kingdom Come, if that game was called The elder scrolls 6: Kingdom Come, it would fit right in.

1) Yes I can, and did, based on the story of the first three, stopped at 3 would have been a nice round end to the franchise, it isn't about if the next game will be good or not.

2) And yet, every final fantasy since 10 has sucked.

3) GT4 was the pinnacle of the series, they should have bowed out and started working on something different instead og GT5, again, just because its a certain type of game does not exclude it from getting tired/old/boring, the formula hasn't changed enough over the franchises existance, it should have ended at 4.

4) Doesn't matter, they should end it at 4.

5) Again, doesn't matter.

Just because they change a games story, location, or plot doesn't mean they have a free pass to just keep doing that until the rest of time, imagine how broad a range of games we would be enjoying right now if, rather than stick to the same old same old, these studios didn't milk out their franchises and instead changed things up and built new IPs instead.

By your logic, there is no such thing as milking, as long as the next game in a series isn't identical to the last.
