Forums - Gaming - Video game franchises that should have stopped at certain point

New Super Mario Bros U is the best in the "new" series, level design got a lot better compared to NSMB and NSMB Wii. Sure NSMB2 released the same holiday felt redundant. In any case I feel the annual Kirby game and the annual party game are much more redundant.

Final Fantasy after x.
Call of duty after the first one.
Halo after 3.
There should not be another gears of war.
Resident evil after 5: 5 was not very good but they get one screw up after quitting.

It takes genuine talent to see greatness in yourself despite your absence of genuine talent.

I dont think many games need to be stopped, I just think some need a break and a good proper go at for when they return.

People saying Sonic, for example. Sonic shouldnt stop being done, they should just go back to what made the franchise so popular to start with. Put effort into a proper, fun, 2D sidescrolling platformer. Make a real successor to the old games and not backhand it with some episodic DLC bullshit.

NSMB, Donkey Kong, Rayman and LBP have all proven that a 2D platformer can be successful on modern hardware. There is no reason at all for the situation to be different for Sonic. Drop the gimmicks, drop the stupid side characters and go old-school 2D platforming and watch the sales roll in.

Street fighter

Gran Turismo. The IP should be retired in favor of Driveclub for a period of time -- then bring it back in it's full glory without so much DLC.

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

And I'm surprised no one else has mentioned, Madden NFL? That series is so off track now. It's sad.

No Franchise should ever have to end. There will always be fans of the games that crave for more. Those who stop to enjoy a game can just stop playing it.

It's a stupid proposition and a slap in the face of any fan of a series.

As long as a game remains relevant, stays true to what it is and delivers an enjoyable experince, there's no reason for a franchise to stop.  Call of Duty, Kirby, and Street Fighter to name a few all do these things well and have remained popular.

Just because a frachise has lost it's way - Final Fantasy, Resident Evil - doesn't mean the franchise needs to stop.  It means developers need to be more creative and passionate about what they're creating and focus on what made those franchises hosehold names.

"You should be banned. Youre clearly flaming the president and even his brother who you know nothing about. Dont be such a partisan hack"

every game that gets more than 2 installments on a single platform. Also all games that get more than 3 instllaments in 6 years no matter the platform.

2.5D castlevania =/= 3D castlevania. Both castlevania series are fine since there is just 2 3D games and 1 2.5D game.

NSMB =/= Mario Galaxy  but there is more than 3 NSMB games within 6 years (NSMB started 2006 NSMB U was 2012)   Mario Galaxy is fine because there is just 2 games but NSMB gets disqualified xD because 4 installments in 6 years!

Sonic is a waste with no hardware to push. Assassin's Creed isn't cool anymore. The new DMC was stupid. The NSMB series isn't "New" now. That's not to say that 2D Mario shouldn't continue, but the current style of games is dated.
