When they announce Actraiser 3, then faith will be restored:)

I was never a SE fan, so I have as much faith in them now as I ever did.

Actraiser 3 will most likely be never announced as that's mostly a dead IP and the studio behind it are highly likely defunct ...

I know, but man would it be a treat:)

The PS3 sold 10 million units in Japan. The PS4 is currently at 600k (for comparison, at the same point in the life of the PS3, it was over 1 million). So what makes you think that XV will sell better than XIII?

The userbase doesn't matter. LOL

It seems like you've still got a long way to understand how games can affect console sales ...

Yes, the PS4 maybe tracking below the PS3 but that doesn't mean it won't change in the future seeing as how almost every 3rd party Japanese developers are supporting the PS4. There's still likely well above 1+ million Final Fantasy fans in Japan and it may turn out to be a better game compared to Final Fantasy XIII depending on Square Enix.

... I wasn't saying that it couldn't sell better than XIII, I was asking you why you thought XV would outsell XIII. With a smaller install base, the game has to be better. So presumably you think there's something about XV that makes it inherently better than XIII, that you can be certain of right now.

That you turned around and asserted that I was stupid for asking you that question, but never provided an actual reason to expect XV will outsell XIII, says to me that you haven't actually got any evidence to support your claim.

And you don't have any evidence to believe that MK8 will be the highest selling console game in Japan ... Fair enough ? ^_^

I haven't even commented on MK8 in this thread. So there's nothing for me to provide evidence for.

If dragon quest does come to consoles then I would put my money on that.

Edit:  I should qualify that by also saying that as long as it is not an mmo.

Hey, you were the one that insinuated that I thought you were stupid ...

If anything almost all of the games in the mainline series after the SNES was capable of doing higher numbers than FF XIII so don`t discount the possibility of it outselling FF XIII.

There's really no other way to interpret the sentence "It seems like you've still got a long way to understand how games can affect console sales ..."

And I haven't discounted anything. You asserted that it was "likely" to do better than 2 million, and it's that part I was challenging - the confident assertion that it'll do better.

Note that main series Final Fantasy sales in Japan have been in decline since Final Fantasy VIII (not counting XI or XIV, which are MMOs, and thus follow a different pattern). VIII sold 3.63 million, IX sold 2.78 million, X sold 2.73 million, XII sold 2.33 million, and XIII sold 1.87 million. This is why "almost all of the games in the mainline series after the SNES was capable of doing higher numbers than FF XIII" - because FF XIII has followed a downward trend. So the assertion that XV outselling XIII is a "likely" event requires evidence to support it. Based on the trend that it has followed, I'd be more likely to expect 1.5-1.6 million for XV in Japan, barring something to help reinvigorate the series (which I can't preclude, which is why I asked you why you expect it to outsell XIII).

There is if you don't take it into a negative light ...

FF XIII could be an anomaly and seeing as how it only needed 130K more to reach 2 million mark just shows you that Final Fantasy IS capable of consistently reaching it plus it's spin-offs such as FF X-2 was able pull off 2 million in Japan so just how exactly hard is it for FF XV to hit 2 million in Japan ?

Final Fantasy XV or Kingdom Hearts 3.
