| Aielyn said: There's really no other way to interpret the sentence "It seems like you've still got a long way to understand how games can affect console sales ..." And I haven't discounted anything. You asserted that it was "likely" to do better than 2 million, and it's that part I was challenging - the confident assertion that it'll do better. Note that main series Final Fantasy sales in Japan have been in decline since Final Fantasy VIII (not counting XI or XIV, which are MMOs, and thus follow a different pattern). VIII sold 3.63 million, IX sold 2.78 million, X sold 2.73 million, XII sold 2.33 million, and XIII sold 1.87 million. This is why "almost all of the games in the mainline series after the SNES was capable of doing higher numbers than FF XIII" - because FF XIII has followed a downward trend. So the assertion that XV outselling XIII is a "likely" event requires evidence to support it. Based on the trend that it has followed, I'd be more likely to expect 1.5-1.6 million for XV in Japan, barring something to help reinvigorate the series (which I can't preclude, which is why I asked you why you expect it to outsell XIII). |
There is if you don't take it into a negative light ...
FF XIII could be an anomaly and seeing as how it only needed 130K more to reach 2 million mark just shows you that Final Fantasy IS capable of consistently reaching it plus it's spin-offs such as FF X-2 was able pull off 2 million in Japan so just how exactly hard is it for FF XV to hit 2 million in Japan ?
